It would be nice if they could f**king play too, plus actually make it on the field.

Carl Webb had plenty of merkin about him, as well as twice the ability of Luke O'Donnell.

Still got injured and lost all his fitness.

Lussick and Allgood both have plenty of merkin in them. Neither is a world beater but Lussick is better than O'Donnell and Allgood is at about the same level (as LOD).

I'm a big fan of Lussick, and he's coming along nicely.

But I wouldn't say Allgood has some merkin in him. He can certainly provide it - but sporadically. And when he does, it's usually in the form of a punch-up. I think we need a douchebag who will niggle tackle opponents in the ruck to get under their skin.

Carl Webb, in my opinion, made a career of living off that one time in an Origin game where he sued out of his skin.

Peni Terepo, Kelepi Tanginoa, Junior Paulo and Pauli Pauli are massively talented kids, but if we could teach them to be an absolute merkin on the field and harness their aggression, I think we would go a long way to becoming a strong, competitive team.

At his peak, Carl Webb was the most talented player in the game. Absolutely f**king awesome. He ran around Luke Patten once during a 60m solo try, and how many 110kg blokes can do a backflip?

Besides Josh Papalii...

If Ben Smith retires we may have some money left under the cap. LOD would be a good pick up for a year with an option in our favor for another seeing that 2014 could be Moimoi's last.

Nobody seems to have noticed last time I posted the question....so I'll ask again....from where are we getting the cap space required to (potentially) sign O'Donnell? Without offloading contracted players....aren't we right on the cap (or a touch over)?

I for one still can't believe we're close to cap level when looking at next year's squad, but then the same could be said for this year's squad.

Mate i don't think we are potentially signing LOD.
It's only forumites wishing we would that is driving this thread.
:D

Nothing wrong with that. If we only spoke in this thread about who we are actually signing it would be pretty f**king boring.

I might start a SBW to eels rumour when this one dies down ;-)

We have Hayne and Hopoate in the same team. Why the f**k wouldn't we be near the cap?

We have to fit another 23 blokes in and few of them are young enough to be on minimum salary.

explain why the Roosters, a pack full of talent, guys like SBW, JWH, FPN, Cordner, Moa with young guns such as Evans and Napa etc would be so keen to have LOD in their side?

Did they re-sign him?

So, probably not that keen hey? I'm sure he was cheap (just looking for a chance), and they had room in their pack for a tight forward.

Right now he will be considerably less cheap, and neither us nor the Chooks have room for him.

If he was to come in order to teach a bit of merkin to the young church boys then I wouldn't mind him missing half a season through injury and/or suspension. This gives the churches a chance to step in every now and then and show what they have learnt without having the burden of doing it for an entire season.

The question then becomes whether what we pay him is worth half a season of playing plus a little bit of education for the younger boys.

wasnt that Dean Pay's job?

They are very keen to re sign him but they have cap issues.

He won't sign with us because we already have our quota of tight forwards filled but it's hardly because the players we got are better.

IMO three of them are better (Mannah, Lussick, Mossop) and a couple of others are too good for Wenty.

Agree O'Donnell would make our top 17 on recent form but he would add very little. Would be worth neither the cost nor the risk (which is basically the same thing). He had a good year but it hardly establishes a pattern after a string if shithouse ones.
