OT - Hyundai A League Question

I signed up for a Wanderers membership before their first season. It came at the recommendation of a mate of mine. He's a keen football fan and I thought it was good the west would finally have a team (massive supporter base west & southwest). Plus I figured it gave me something to do in the off season.

Anyway, enter season 1. Modest crowds/performances soon exploded into a juggernaut. I went to all the home games, Melbourne Victory away (which was a great, great experience) and all semis/GF. Was pretty amazing to be a part of, and it's great to see the game going strong. I still think the test will come when we hit a slow season or two, but the RBB and a decent showing from the casual fan base has done very well so far.

I highly recommend going to a game featuring Sydney FC or WSW, if you can land tickets. The atmosphere is very different to Rugby League/AFL/Union and it's enjoyable to get into, especially if it's a slow point in the game. Also, pay little attention to the violence angle painted by some of our friends in the media - it's mostly nonsense.

Enjoy the football!

good to read a well constucted point of view.

Roar fan, get to as many games as I can but Uni gets in the way a fair bit generally although this season, asides from this weekend, doesn't look to bad in that regard.

The crowds and standard have improved dramatically over the years..

Being at Lang Park with 4 thousand others was always odd, but made getting beers easy :)

We tend to get 15 k + now which generates decent atmosphere to compliment the onfield action.

WSW is becoming a bit of a phenomenon. They may find themselves being forced to play a home game or 2 at ANZ Stadium before this season is through.

League is my sport of choice along with all of us no doubt but it's good to see them going well. Doesn't effect us.
Good to see Union doing shit.

When wanderers start losing, crowds will start dwindling.
Plus crowds are not the biggest barometer of the sports popularity or success.

Agree with the first point, but the 2nd point,sh*t crowds don't mean success do they.

Big mistake if they play at ANZ,like us switching to SCG ,takes away from the usual home ritual.
Besides the atmosphere at Parra stadium much better with 20,000 than ANZ with 25,000.

look I agree with that and hate when we get moved.
but if and when they play Sydney fc later this year or whenever it is, let me check, so it's on January 11 in the middle of the school holidays.

they may potentially have demand for well over the 21500 Parra Stadium capacity. Sydney FC maybe doing shit by then but if they are both still up there and this WSW train keeps rolling along, they will get 50K there. Possibly more.

They wont make a stupid decision like us, moving 14th v 15th to commemorate a GF anniversary twice in the 1 season.

I don't think that's even possible any more. Parramatta and WSW have had sellouts over the past few years and haven't been able to crack 20k. Highest was 19,8xx I think from Parra against Wests, with WSW about 100 or so less with the derby.

How do you reckon they are doing now?

Sydney Fc,Heart,Jets,Wellington,Glory all unwatchable.Victory don't play with a striker,C Coast keep possession and don't do anything with it,Adelaide ok, Roar starting to play fluent again but also without a striker.
Wanderers struggle when Hersi isn't playing.
Long live Sydney Olympic.

Roar without a striker?

Someone better tell Henrique and Berisha about this..

Victory started with Thompson Friday night, last I looked he is a striker.

Sydney were great in round one, not sure what's happened since then. Heart and Glory are very watchable, agree about Newcastle and Welllington though.

Sydney were not great in round 1. ADP was great and the Jets were shit.

Yes he was, and as a whole so was the team. They looked on right from kick off with all they did.

They haven't got close to that in the following two games. I thought they looked best out of all the clubs in round one and I was concerned how the roar would fair against them in round two.

All IMO of course.
