You obviously don't watch enough Parra games when Hayne is on the field. He carries the nuffies we've put on the field for the last two years the way not many other players could. If he played for Melbourne, Souths or the Roosters people would be talking him up as the best player in the game.

Hard to argue.

I'll go as far as saying rugby league needs a rule change or two to somehow allow weaker teams to compete a bit more à la rugby union. The purists may not like it but it would hopefully be better for the sport as a whole.

I'd love to see something investigated. It's clear rugby has done what it can to manufacture the illusion of competiveness. It wouldn't hurt for international RL to take a look at ways to increase the competitiveness at international level.

Unlimited interchanges might be a start.

Tough call Mis. I think you'll find there's more than a few good eggs amongst them.

I'm sure there are. But there are a fair few almighty merkins in there too. One of them plays for my NRL team.

Souths Melbourne and roosters have enough quality players to not have to rely on one player, and relying on that one player brings him into the spotlight and overrates his abilities, I.e barba with the bulldogs.

And how would that happen? The difference is RU has rules (e.g. Ruck and maul, advantage rule interpretations etc) which allow for a more even contest between the sides.

Bed time for you Mig. Nighty night.

Might as well say goodnight to any possible new league fans at the same time. I'll glady trade one purist for two new fans every time.

Eligibility is only 50% of the problem. The fact that league can be compared to an arm wrestle where once it is over, it is over does not help bring in the new fans and the money.

Enjoy the 50+ nil semi-final.

You can't rain bombs on Inglis Boyd and Morris. Fijian halves are gonna have to try some tricky shit.

The mid field chip kick over the top is one of the most underused plays in league and is only seen mainly in.the back end of the 2nd half when a team is down on the scoreboard

I'm not sure how, but as Misanthorpe says it is something that could be investigated. There are surely some tweaks that could be found.

Consider the junior league games where weight categories are being introduced instead of age categories. Leads to more interest in the game and keeps the kids playing. I'm not advocating a change like that but I suspect such rule tweaks exist that would take league to a new level without sacrificing the characteristics that make league great.
