The deep kick off the scrum

That's also another underused play, although it helps if you have a fast winger or center. I remember the days the Knights used to do that frequently when Darren Albert was playing (arguably one of the fastest players in RL history). Those were the days

The problem with the experience is Australia play origin and an international tournament each year, plus the most competitive club season in the world. NZ also play Internationals each year, and NRL experience. England also play internationals each year.

Whoever is in charge needs to build a yearly tournament for these 'minnows', with a cash prize for the winner, with a friendly against the four nations winner and entry into the next year's four nations. Run that shit concurrently with the bigger four nations comp, with TV coverage, probably on foxtel.

Run this, and within two world cups, we're looking much better than right now. It's just a problem when teams like the US and Italy play once every 5 years.

Making these games more competitive you don't need to change any rules.

Just fix eligibility (especially the ARLs bullshit rule that to play SOO you have to be eligible for Australia) and have them play more games.

Sadly due to the dynamics of the NRL these days with all the wrestling craps, you rarely see players having the confidence within themselves to try these creative plays earlier in the game. That's been a downside of the conservative coaching that's endemic in the NRL

f**king A. You don't have to be Australian to be a Queenslander or New South Welshman. Players can't turn down an extra 150k, so of course they choose Australia/origin

who was that kid that voss mentioned that died

They play an U/11's schoolboy game before the challenge cup final and the trophy is named after him.

Apparently he scored an 80m try in that game and the cameras caught him crying as he was about to score.

3 years later he died in an accident.

Gotta love vossy and the research he does

This. Teams outside of the Big 3 need to play far more tests to gain the match experience over time, something they can't get playing the odd test here and there

Might as well say goodnight to any possible new league fans at the same time. I'll glady trade one purist for two new fans every time.

Eligibility is only 50% of the problem. The fact that league can be compared to an arm wrestle where once it is over, it is over does not help bring in the new fans and the money.

Enjoy the 50+ nil semi-final.

You're a dick.

Nothing wrong with the game, or the people that love it. f**k you.

You'll take two nufties over someone who loves the game and its history? Are you drunk?

Resources are another issue. Pacific Island nations like Fiji aren't big compared to France and Wales. Sadly, both of those two European sides have regressed over the years, especially Wales. Wales have been by far the biggest disappointment in this tournament, and are a shadow of the side that made the semis in '95 and '00. A shadow of the team that gave Australia a huge scare in 2000.

probably Sonny Fai - NZ Warrior who drowned and his body never recovered. I think he dived into a rip to save his cousin.

Kid was only 19 or something. Was considered the next sonny bill. wasted tragedy.

I'm not convinced that fixing eligilibity will fix everything. In the BEST case scenario you still end up with a competition that ressembles the NRL without a salary cap. I'd love for someone to explain to me in concrete terms how league plans to cultivate more international competitivity than what exists in union taking into account the means the IRB has at its disposal. It's non-sensical to critisise non-competitivity in union and somehow believe league will magically do better.
