A number of St George Illawarra players are being investigated by police over an alleged violent incident in Wollongong
Do you know more? Call us 4221 2207
Police on Friday confirmed they were investigating an incident involving players which allegedly occurred on Thursday night.
A 26-year-old man was taken to hospital in Wollongong.
At this stage charges have not been laid.
The bulk of St George Illawarra's squad live in the Illawarra with the team training largely in Wollongong.
The NRL has been dogged by several off-field incidents this year highlighted by the jailing of Newcastle forward Russell Packer for two years for assault.
A police media spokeswoman said a 26-year-old man had been taken to Wollongong Hospital for treatment of eye and cheek injuries.
She said the man was injured following a scuffle with another man.
While police were on scene, a separate “large” brawl occurred, leading to multiple arrests.
Wollongong police are continuing to investigate the matter.
More to come.

This is not St George Illawarra type behaviour. I hope it's just a storm in a teacup, but if there were dog acts committed then the club must act on it, sh#t.

On a serious note. Farrrrrrrrrrrk. Hope it was just a case of some wanker baiting them and in the wrong. We have done so well keeping this rubbish out of our culture. This shit is something we dont need and reserved for the Doggies

I heard there was 2-3 players involved...if so, I hope they are sacked effective immediately.

If that's the case I can only hope it was Hunt, Rein and Harrison, egged on by Price with Doust as the instigator.

This is symptomatic of the pathetic and I'll disciplined culture that is rife throughout the club at present. Disgraceful

Who's side are you on ?

We really don't need this right now. Hope it's resolved quickly with no players suspended.

Hunt plays his heart out for us every time he runs on, He's got more heart and loyalty in his little finger than some of the alleged supporters on here.
I'm sure any team in the comp would be happy to have a player like him as well.
Maybe you blokes should consider switching teams, I'd say you'd fit right in at the Bunnies.

We have the most loyal fans in the competition.

I'd say you should be pointing these guys towards the Roosters instead.

Geez you are quick to stab your own....might just be a storm in a teacup or they were simply bystanders.

Don't believe what the press says. They don't get a story by saying the dragons players were known to be in the area having an ice cream.

No offence yo.

You could be right about the Roosters, they'd love the CEO there, the cheque book champions mentality, disloyal players to moan about. Yep, I'll send them right over.

St George Illawarra NRL player centre of brawl probe

THE NRL’S summer of discontent has continued with a St George Illawarra player now under police investigation over an incident at a Wollongong hotel which left a with facial injuries.
Police media on Friday confirmed an investigation had begun into an altercation between two men at a licensed premises on Keira Street in Wollongong about 10.20pm on Thursday night.
A 26-year-old man was taken to hospital after suffering eye and cheek injuries in the incident.
The Australian understands the player at the centre of the allegations is a fringe first grader.
Nevertheless, the incident continues a difficult off-season for the Dragons and the NRL.
After a poor 2013, St George Illawarra’s preparation for the opening round of the 2014 premiership culminated in an embarrassing performance against South Sydney in the Charity Shield, a result which has placed increasing pressure on the position of coach Steve Price.
The club begins its season against the Wests Tigers at ANZ Stadium in just over a week.
The NRL has had its problems as well, the most notable being the jailing of Newcastle prop Russell Packer.
