The bulk of St George Illawarra's squad live in the Illawarra with the team training largely in Wollongong.
The NRL has been dogged by several off-field incidents this year highlighted by the jailing of Newcastle forward Russell Packer for two years for assault.
A police media spokeswoman said a 26-year-old man had been taken to Wollongong Hospital for treatment of eye and cheek injuries.
She said the man was injured following a scuffle with another man.
While police were on scene, a separate large brawl occurred, leading to multiple arrests.
Wollongong police are continuing to investigate the matter.
More to come.
