You crack me up very clever hahahahaha

Always nice to see a relative on the thread!

The oils lend themselves to the feeling of powerlessness and frustration many sgi folk are feeling.

Everyone has their own reasons for shredding Mary.

Apart from his inability to coach and the scores of pitiful and illogical excuses for losses over the last couple of years, I take issue with the following:

1. Straight after the devastation of 2019, the worst season in sgi history, he bundys off on some corporate junket to the usa with his mates. They do an all expenses paid tour of clubs and stadia and attend corporate functions with captains of industry ( some of which have bit the dust already).

They stuffed their fat faces, they drank and partied.

Luxury suites...the whole Hog.

He had a great time and he came back excited and started sprouting this corporate crap no-one understood or cared less about. Mumbo jumbo about the squad being “ rookies again” ( after his 6th year as coach, with some of the best players in the world) and having his “ footprints all over the club”

He didn’t file any large reports, he didn’t come back with anything except claiming he’d learned things. That didn’t bear out at the start of this year, unless you call losing your best player in a nonsense tournament an accomplishment.

I felt that after such a horrific season, his place was home with the players, the club and the fans. He had the major hand in the mess and he upped and took off.

That he hadn’t earned the right to piss off overseas was one thing, but his decision to go, clearly showed he lacked any leadership and he lacked respect for people.

And to this day, no one has had the temerity to ask captain courageous for a “please explain”.

It was a miserable act of self indulgence the likes of which has never been seen in the history of the game.

People were hurting all over your club and Mary had done the runner.

He had the chance to walk the walk and make a personal sacrifice for the club, but just like his lack of a pay cut, he took what he could while he could.

He’s wealthy enough to spend years in the USA if he wanted, largely thanks to his putrid undeserved hand in your wallets. But he abandoned ship at the most critical and hardest time in the clubs history.

Over on sgi official they were running stories on vintage victories. People here were very very angry and thought being a finals series now was better than reading about something in the distant past.

So nobody who knows him as a coach or leader, has any time for him.

And don’t forget, he came to power in a bloody coup that took someone else’s sole livelihood away and he destroyed them and theirs wholesale. So if he wants to live by the sword....

That he talks about his ego, baffles most people. Delusional is an understatement. He’s the high turkey of the nrl. Kearney couldn’t coach either, but at least he’s a decent bloke.

In my opinion, Mary is not a nice person, he’s a selfish individual who puts his own interests above all. He’s never cleanly taken responsibility. He’s always left the door slightly ajar to blame others.

And the board buy into the bullshit because it makes them feel important.

Mary will be smashed into the next world next week by Robbo. He won’t know what hit him. The scowling hateful ( factory) Mary will be back with gusto.

The last two weeks have been excellent for the Mary-enablers, but the fun and games are over.

A lot of people were upset he found his back from his conference. They could have worn it, if he’d stayed over there.

2. I was going to add that when you refuse to accept any personal or professional responsibility, for the following:

Poor player preparation for games
Horrendous game plans
Selection mismanagement
Poor public relations
Catastrophic recruitment and retention input
No fair go for budding young elites
Decline of skills and abilities
Lack of player welfare and confidence
Idiot external appointments
No pay cut and insistence on full freight in a major recession
2nd worst coaching record of all time
And much much more

Then you can belt on all you like about things being “ unacceptable” and no-one of any standing, gives you the time of day because you aren’t owning the outcome.

And you can’t expect the players to pull their socks up when you ain’t wearing any.

And I’m sick of hearing the old “ they trained well” excuse. No, they didn’t train well, because shock horror, “ training well “ means carrying that effort, intent, skills and abilities into the next game.

That’s the whole idea of training!

If a team trains badly and wins, it’s a win.

Nobody cares if Corey drops a hundred passes at training so long as he hits the sweet spots during the game etc.

Training well never got anyone 2 points.

I’ve heard Mary belt out the “ training well” excuse “ don’t know what happened” many times over his illustrious seemingly infinite career.

A few here would say to me “ Well what do you expect?!” and I’d have to promptly concede the point.

I wouldn't be totally shocked if no other coach gets sacked this year after all the bad press the warriors have got as a result of it.

Next year though could see a few axings.

Dean Pay, John Morris, Paul Green, Anthony Seibold and Paul McGregor are all under immense pressure. I don't think 1 of them will last beyond next year.

When I look at the successful coaches they appear to be:

a) Good at teaching and developing player skills (important for young players);
b) Professional person manager (important for experienced players); and
c) Skilful tactician and capable of developing a game plan.

In the NRL at the moment, only Bennett, Bellamy, Hasler and Robinson appear to be strong in all of these areas.

Therefore, the Dragons options are to pursue Bennett, Bellamy, Hasler or Robinson or appoint a head coach from a lesser competition who has demonstrated these skills and has significantly improved the side that he inherited. I recall Wayne Bennett had a very good record before he was brought into the Raiders’ system in 1987.

I know that members have supported the appointment of Shaun Wane and he does have a very good record. He also appears to have helped develop good young players in the English Super League. I would offer him the head coaching role if Bennett, Bellamy, Hasler and Robinson are not available.

I would also like to see Nathan Brown appointed as head of pathways responsible for identifying talent and recommending good young players from other clubs to the head coach and CEO for consideration.

Yeah, that’s a good post to reflect on.

But in all of the above cases, the recruitment has been woeful as well.

When the veteran Issac Luke was announced as the only big sgi signing last year, realistically, I imagine Mary was very pissed off. Fisticuffs?! This was because he’d already lost good players so overall quality was on the decline.

That negative process has only gained momentum this year.

But by way of some optimism, I can see the sgi war chest emerging. Suli was offered 3 years, being 2 almost certainly post-Mary. That’s fighting words to the market.

Bennett is looking the best bet. For sure hed like a war chest. Whatever happens, he is an elite coach and will bring some used bunnies and broncs over to complement the squad. That will add to the depth so desperately needed. No more protected species.

But sgi shouldn’t be cruising with wooing him over. It shouldn’t be stupid, but with all these jobs, it’s a good coaches market.

How the board missed OBrien is unbelievable. What a year he’s having.

The coach’s box looked about as chilly as I’ve ever seen.
I noticed that to Flannigan refuses to look at the camera. Then again I'd be annoyed if I was doing all the work and not getting the credit for it.
Not to mention knowing how much the head coach is on while Flannigan is probably not even on half that at the moment.

I’d be surprised if he was on a quarter of Marys pay.

Under the socialist democratic team selection regime, they should probably pool the coaching pays and take an equal cut.

So in recent times I have heard that Mary doesn’t coach the defence. He isn’t in involved in any of the recruiting, he isn’t hands on and watches video. He doesn’t select the team. He must be the highest paid coach if you look at it from a dollar paid per responsibility point of view.

I mean seriously $800k and he pretty much does none of the coaching function apart from video watching.

Two completely different characters that looked very polarised in the coaches box. Mary is the dud one. He just cannot gel with others who are trying to help him. How about you bloomin' coaches giving each other some high fives from time to time?

Well Webby
On your
Day 78
As we count the lost days of renewal & change....

The commentary just keeps coming:

“Young players will only develop if they are shown faith and given game time.

Brown’s six year era makes McGregor’s six years look pretty awful. Add the non-retention Tyson Frizell and the number of players asking for immediate releases there are genuine causes for concern.

So I pose the question, when the axe inevitably falls on McGregor should the club bring Brown back with Gasnier and Dean Young as his assistants? “

The future is inevitable
...as is Waterboy’s sacking
-
It’s just a matter of the cost of your delay

PS
McFail’s instinct today will be Turnstile & Lafai to the centres & Zac to the wing

(NB Are they the longest, most unsuccessful centre pairing in NRL history - who, in conjunction with the worst coach = worst attack?)

... unless Flanno & Deano chip in

I see Toov’s has his hand up!

The body language is pretty terrible isn't it DD?- every other coaches box has the assistant sitting next to the coach but it looks like Mary has decided that if the TV cameras are going to be trained on the SGI box, the message is going to be clear- I'm the bloody head coach and you (Flanno) can sit in the cheap seats. The jealousy and insecurity is truly pathetic.

Yep- we have ourselves a Clayton's coach- no wonder old gutless Gordon doesn't want to front the media to defend this crap and wheels out rookie Ryan to do it for him.

Contrast that to the Warriors who smashed us- I don't necessarily think that Kearney was fairly treated when sacked but their management didn't muck around and they had to admit to a bigger extension mistake and payout than SGI. Just goes to show that despite Webb's weasel words that we are in a strong financial position, the real reason was the Board didn't want to spend any of it.

And of course, we'll have trouble even recruiting a temporary replacement for Graham. Why would someone like Daniel Alvaro (one of the targets) leave the Eels who are serious challengers to join our dysfunctional outfit.

At last, we play some serious contenders in the next three weeks so I'm hoping that after three losses, we'll be back where we belong-on the base rung of the ladder- and the media sets up camp outside of Gordon's palatial mansion until he opens his mouth and says something meaningful.

He made a few sharp comments as well about him being the commander until the selection panel was imposed on him.

Then the club spun the story to highlight the merits of “ co-operation” and “ consultancy” that he’s suddenly all for.

His emasculation as a coach is in full swing and he’s putting on a brave face.

It’s a death by a thousand cuts because of the personality issues.

Now the board has set itself up for massive failure by this loyalty statement nonsense unless there is a miracle.

It’s an act of cruelty to everyone, especially Mary, to keep the circus on the road. He has to go ASAP.

We’ve already worked out here that the cost of sacking him is far less than retaining him.
