Bloody hell! Don't tell me all this nepotism all the "experts" in the media and the morons on social media go on about all the time extends all the way to the selectors of the PM's XIII squad!
Wasn't it obvious the selectors should have been picking Illias or Glover instead? It's bloody nepotism I tells ya!
Thanks... l enjoyed this one... l actually watched a bit of the game. KF still needs a kicking game but stood his ground in defence and set up at least one try. l was happy for him.

Did anyone watch the game closely? how did he go? i only saw highlights with him dropping it cold.
That was with about 2 mins to go in pouring rain.

All in all, he was pretty solid. Hopeless article by the Mole that clearly didn't watch the game.

While he had the 6 on his back, Kyle played first receiver and played square and deep giving Campbell or Gray time and space. Few passes skipped second receiver and put B. Best or Strange on the outside and on the front foot.

He was 1cm away from a try assist to Tallis Duncan with a great kick into the in-goal and a quick hand away from a certain try with a great short side raid. He supported well and had a decent line break off B. Best.

His defence, as always, was solid. But, again, as always his running game is very weak. Almost non-existent.

I'd have given him a 7 out of 10. And that is what he is.

agree
good summary re Kyle
Strange went to 5/8 also after first 30mins or so?
Campbell to first receiver
Campbell started kicking well in general play.

everyone in the 17 got good minutes as they do in this game most years

Given Strange's season he deserved to go to the halves after not too long into the game ........Such a solid player. At centre he still looked super sharp and dangerous.

He is certainly something. So strong in contact.

Kyle did pretty much the same for the PM's13 that he does for us. He didn't do anything spectacular or do anything really bad.
If he had a yard more pace he could unlock the players outside him, but IMO he stifles the attack. He got picked off once because he telegraphed a pass and was slow executing it while too deep. I thought he was unlucky with Duncan's no try off his grubber and his clearing kicks were no different than for us. His defence was solid as usual but I don't think he's a rep player.
As @BlackDuckSaint said 7/10.

If he can't light up a game against nuffies when he has oodles of class all around him then 'what chance playing with us?

The get out clause of "he was solid in defence" is just missing / denying the obvious.

He is with us because of Daddy and for no other reason and probably the reason we are signing Quinn as any current 1st grade quality half with a modicum of attacking talent is going to give us an extremely wide birth.

Quinn & our other young halves all but guarantee KF a 1st grade spot and most likely in the 7 or 6.

Our prospects of success whilst he has a contract with us are very poor indeed.

a couple of things remain clear for the Dragons after round 1 of 2026….if the call is close or 50/50 we lose, happened several times again yesterday, as well as some non 50/50 calls.
the other thing that remains clear is Kyle Flanagan is a handbrake on the team in attack and also pretty ineffective in defence and also ineffective as a leader or senior player. We have seen this for a couple of seasons, it’s not suddenly going to switch on and he is not going to come good as many hope.
can we not at least try a few games with KF in the sheds, just see if his presence is causing the issue in confidence that is endemic in the team.

From what I saw without KF and his defence we would of lost by a few more points.

He’s an arm grabber, always susceptible to the exact play Galvin put on him. He also fails to stop many plays dead with a good tackle, Atkinson did it a few times yesterday on his side, but they often manage to get the ball away when Kyle tackles.
