I do see your point and those chosen deserve there spots although to include the other names mentioned only increases the squad to around 35. Most other teams have squads of those numbers and dont have academy to fall back on. It would provide the loyalty, show them they are important in the set-up, keep them at the club and help them progress with a mind to 2011. The thing to consider also and the whole job of junior reps is to produce first graders. Realistically only of the top 5 in each age group would stand much chance of acheiving this. of that 2011 group they now have nothing after the top 3. Just think a litle forward thinking by accomodating the players mentioned in an extended squad (no bigger than other clubs) and no bigger than is needed for Penrith and SWAS would have made smart business.

True.
So now the likes of Tai and Antonelli are gone, shouldnt Penrith realistically be looking to improve what has been shown loyal to that age group and competition, ie Ben Heterick, and really all the other players who have not left in search of stardom or whatever reason. Rather then just wonder would could have been if these 2 players stayed.

Personally i think the idea for a few 17 yr olds playing for either Penrith or Academy in the Sg Ball, would have been better for the kids experience in rep football an help them for their right age the next year. They testes this in 2009 with WSAS comprising of 17s and goin well. Really this WSAS this year should be 18 yr olds but at least 3 or 4 younger players. This would have helped with growth and maybe even enticed a few more of the rep greedy players to stay within Penrith's reach.

Personally I think there may be a postive with so many of the younger 17s in Sg Ball squads across NSW. From past evidence many Penrith juniors 17 Years olds that change clubs for weaker SG Ball clubs end up coming back to play SG Ball the following year should Penrith want them. This could benefit Penrith as these boys will acquire more Rep footy experience.
Does anyone see where im coming from?

I see exactly where your coming from. I'm a Roosters suppporter but I follow all the junior talent closely and I agree with your theory. Many juniors from both the Parramatta and Penrith districts try our for other rep teams when they are not picked for either one of these teams. The obvious reason being that they want to get a spot in a rep team even though they are younger. There is no question that the likes of Penrith, Canterbury and Parramatta have the best junior league talent around and with that in mind, many of the players cut from these districts would be a realistic chance of making the other rep teams such as Norths, Souths and Roosters. There are perfect examples in Tai Tuivasa, Jason Antonelli and even Chris Nay moving to the Dragons for an opportunity. But when it comes around and they are 18, they are normally still playing club footy after the rep season in the Penrith, Canterbury or Parramatta districts which means that they get picked in their normal age groups for these sides, but with the upside of the fact that they have more rep experience with them. I assume this will happen with Tuivasa and Antonelli returning to play their club football in the Penrith district. Although there is the other side of the coin where they can end up impressing at the Roosters and getting picked up, as what happened with another Penrith junior in Inoke Vunipola who is in the Roosters SG Ball squad and even Nathan Antonelli and Jake Webb in the Harold Matts.

spot on, i will be very interested what penrith do with hetriks. He was a standout in the last round against our boys at the weekender and in the first semi against st clair, won easily by brothers, he scored two long distance tries showed exceptional speed and gave ryan wilson no space at all in defence. Hetriks, vave, bridekirk should be selected in academy squad and let them show what they can offer. There is trials for 17 development in january i think, hope they are at home, i will be an interested onlooker.

I agree with Hetrick but not the other two

Yeah same, If there was ever gonna be a top 6 from 2009 to play reps up and age in 2010, NOT based on there performances through the year though, It would have been Wilson, Regan, Satini, Tuivasa, Antonelli and Heterick.
With Tai and Jason now gone, it leaves these other four, including Hetrick. But it wasnt ment to be.

I see exactly where everyone is going with there comments on this and all valid i might add but im not sure that other clubs that have talent knocking down there doors would be keeping 6 or 7 players from a side that ran seventh the previous year and also to me it looks like they added the three players because they are a bit light on in those positions they play meaning outside backs thats why wilson and satini have been added and they only have one specialist hooker in blake south and yes there are others that can play there but they are not a specialist hence reece being picked they have a lot of talent in the backs with the likes of eisunhuth, tevita, mate, seiker, pepa but the wingers are not growing much nanai, compton and only one specialist fullback in matai so adding to big strong outside backs in wilson and satini makes sense and heterik should feel unlucky but he dosent have the same toughness and the forwards dont need anyone ...

With the likes of sam hollis ,john taefu, vaipuna, curtis, carl, darcy hogan, kyle burchart, solo, kaiser and tyrone when he was there leaves no room for tai and jason who yeah are good players but dont offer anymore than the ones mentioned.

Stretcher, spot on with the strengthening of weak positions. I believe the other players of note like hetriks, antonelli, tai etc should have been added and only with the outlook to use them at the academy after 1 trial or so, but if they were named in a larger squad originally others would still be here with hetrik. ;heterik should feel unlucky but he dosent have the same toughness ;tough call, the matts games i watched last year he did not lack in 1 on 1 defence, he does not carry on like wilson wanting to fight every one on the opposite team and the semi at the kingsway last year he was on wilson like a fat boy on a cup cake. Maybe someone should tap him on the shoulder and tell him to start fighting and carry on after every tackle he makes not just play the game.

I know what you mean about wilson but i watched last years semi against wests and heterik was soft not getting involved and then coming off with a mystery injury when the team needed him to lift and the same game saw tai disobey coaches instructions to attack the right hand side of the field but continued to attack the left with wests number 11 chopping him down with considerable ease maybe thats why hes at the roosters now..and as ive said in past blogs players dont control the team coaches do ..a hard lesson but wayne bennett has the desired result using the same philosophy....

yes, i agree about tai, i was at the west game, Tai would not go onto the right side as instructed by the coach, not a smart move. But you must have hetrik mixed up with someone else, he did not play the semi, he was stretcherd off the week before against bulldogs with what ended up being a grade 3 ligament tear and was out for 7-8 weeks. The boys told me he actually had physio every day and even had a fitness test to try and play semi but failed.

Good games of footy in humid conditions. In the Matts Young Harry Mclean a backrower filled in well in the front row at the last minute. Positive signs for the Panthers, the half back Sam Douglas was sharp in attack.

Interesting to see Logan Geyer has been called up the 15's Development squad after being left out of the original squad

I thought the panthers looked fairly average in both grades. Bulldogs were clear winners in both HM and Ball. I heard the 20s went much the same way. the coaches have some serious work to do.
