I do see your point and those chosen deserve there spots although to include the other names mentioned only increases the squad to around 35. Most other teams have squads of those numbers and dont have academy to fall back on. It would provide the loyalty, show them they are important in the set-up, keep them at the club and help them progress with a mind to 2011. The thing to consider also and the whole job of junior reps is to produce first graders. Realistically only of the top 5 in each age group would stand much chance of acheiving this. of that 2011 group they now have nothing after the top 3. Just think a litle forward thinking by accomodating the players mentioned in an extended squad (no bigger than other clubs) and no bigger than is needed for Penrith and SWAS would have made smart business.
True.
So now the likes of Tai and Antonelli are gone, shouldnt Penrith realistically be looking to improve what has been shown loyal to that age group and competition, ie Ben Heterick, and really all the other players who have not left in search of stardom or whatever reason. Rather then just wonder would could have been if these 2 players stayed.
Personally i think the idea for a few 17 yr olds playing for either Penrith or Academy in the Sg Ball, would have been better for the kids experience in rep football an help them for their right age the next year. They testes this in 2009 with WSAS comprising of 17s and goin well. Really this WSAS this year should be 18 yr olds but at least 3 or 4 younger players. This would have helped with growth and maybe even enticed a few more of the rep greedy players to stay within Penrith's reach.
