    Eels in the media

We have a lot of free cash next year, so we might’ve ‘bought’ the CO with a decent sized contract. I know the media reported he was cheap but they don’t know. A big discount is a better story than fair value. So is massive overs.

Only on the top. I’ve got heaps of hair around the back and sides.

No it’s not. The people running the club are aware that every decision carries risk (unlike most fans). The eventual outcome of any decision doesn’t justify or refute the decision, any more than backing a roughie proves the odds were wrong.

    Squad succession

All edge forwards can play in the middle. They stop being edge forwards when they can no longer play out wide. When do we know that? When they retire

It begs the broader question of whether the club is run by f**king idiots with less of a clue than a bunch of internet deadshits. Frankly the idea is offensive and causing me harm.

Well it looks like you’re paying bart’s game of amateur psychology, which you can play on your own, sorry. I am trying to discuss footy, not trade ad hominem attacks.

I doubt Williams will be a first choice edge forward but Ryles might surprise. I’m keen to see if Guymer is an edge forward option. I assume Tuilagi and Cartwright will be the merkins, and we’ll soon buy a good one for 2026.

Put it this way, if the club said they had a policy of ABSOLUTELY NO PLAYER OPTIONS, how would that change the equation for the negotiating player? If the PO was the factor deciding between two offers, what would happen if it was removed from negotiations? Would the player require something in...

They’re not supposed to be an advantage to the club ffs. That’s why the player is expected to give up money in exchange for the PO. If the player wasn’t conceding something, there would be no reason for the club to offer or agree to the PO.

I’d say players want their futures sorted long before then. You’re being unreasonable with your extremely limited analysis.

The PO is only a problem if you don’t want to keep them. Though if you can rissole a player with a non-PO year left on his contract (e.g. Gutherson/RCG/Sivo) you can surely do the same thing to a player with a PO. The problem isn’t the PO, it’s the fact you don’t want them at the club. Every...

They were a response to salary cap pressure in trying to keep a finals team together. We are no longer under the same cap pressure. That’s why we don’t need to offer player options any more.

    Rumours and Stuff

It’s no different to any contract offer. They all come with a deadline so the player can’t f**k you around forever.

    Rumours and Stuff

It’s the same for any player on contract that he doesn’t want, including RCG, Sivo and Gutherson. Those three didn’t just have a PO, they had a fixed year that Ryles didn’t want to pay them for. The lack of flexibility is overstated as a problem. These merkins all have deadlines that the club...

They're trying to extend him before he is off contract. The reason is that we have extra cap space now. The player options are part of the current contract, which ends when he signs a new one. The player wants more money rather than the options.

    Rumours and Stuff

I'd say in general the players would prefer more money instead of a PO. That's why it's a small minority of players that have them.

I assume he's already on it. The top players in the game would be on at least that much.
