Gobsmacked is basing his valuation on his love of the game, not any financial realities. You're right, if teams were as valuable and as profitable as some of the numbers thrown around here, billionaire would be lining up trying to buy a team.

    18th club, whose next?

Yeah but you weren't in the negotiations like tiktok.

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

Good luck to the 50% fan owned team finding $10m from the fans of a team that doesn't even exist.

This is the first argument that makes any sense.

Umm if the $20m is going to the other teams, how exactly does it help bailing them out? Wouldn't the team having access to $20m in say a bank guarantee do that?

And I don't think anyone actually thinks it will end up as nothing this time. The NRL asking for $20m 2 years after asking for nothing is stupid. And given all the articles suggest every bid failed to meet that number, the market agrees the NRL made a bad decision.

Rich people don't get rich enough to pay a $20m fee and then just throw away money like that.

    WA BEARS

It's extremely relevant. Why would someone put up $20m when a team from only a couple of years ago didn't have to? Why would they put up the money when the NRL can just waive it for the next team that comes along? The NRL went too big and it blew up in their face.
  9. M

    WA BEARS

Correct, so the the justification for waiving the Dolphins fee makes no sense. Arguing that there is a fee to get a slice of the pie, but then that other group doesn't need to pay for their slice because they could bake their own pie if needed doesn't make any sense.

But then how is paying $20m to bribe other clubs going to help the team when it goes pear shaped? Surely that $20m is better used on the running of the team to stop it going pear shaped in the first place.

When are you going to respond like this to people saying what you want to hear? Your mate wb1234 acts like he's directly involved in negotiations.

Aren't you the one running in taking potshots at people not even responding to you. Stick to cheering for innocent kids to get massacred.

    WA BEARS

Probably because of the arguments people are making for why the fee is required. One of the claims is that they need to pay a fee for the right to buy into the revenue. Why is the Dolphins being an established brand relevant to that?

    WA BEARS

You refer to a teenage/social media posting style, when all your posts are an attempt at insulting me rather than actually arguing a point. Maybe have a look in the mirror before writing your next response. So the only bid that has agreed to the fee is the one that is using other people's...

So in other words, you and the NRL are making it up as you go along. Notice how none of the bids have agreed to pay the $20m? Because it's a horrible business decision. The Perth bid was stupid putting $0, but this has blown up in Vlandys face as well. No smart business person is ever going to...

    WA BEARS

And some people just defend the NRL no matter what they do and make pretty stupid posts defending the indefensible. If what you're saying is the reason for the licence fee, why didn't the Dolphins need to pay one? Why do Perth need $30m plus the $20m? Why do they need to pay a fee to prove they...

How does forcing a bid to pay a $20m licence fee help a team survive on its own. You are placing any bid at a bigger risk of failure. A bank guarantee that they will eventually get back does that. Forcing them to pay a fee that will likely take them a decade to see a return on does not.

You want the ARLC to agree to a bid that says it will be 50% owned by fans, despite currently having no fans.
