2024 TV and Streaming Ratings Discussion

Help me understand something - On the crowd thread, you vilify anyone who brings up the greater inclination of AFL fans to attend matches. Paint them as AFL trolls, say AFL is their favourite sport, etc. Entirely different on the ratings thread. Here, NRL partisanship is anathema. Why the...

2024 TV and Streaming Ratings Discussion

Intrusive ads would vitiate the NRL product. Any sport able and willing to accommodate an excess of advertising isn't a real sport. Echoes of horse-racing, which only exists to facilitate gambling.

    NRLW - 2024

Fine player. I began following women's RL in 2017. Searched online for Aussie game footage. Found Jillaroos Tests and State Challenges from around 2013-17. Karina Brown was a standout. Reminded me a bit of DWZ. Speaks well in interviews. Potential media pundit. Although sometimes hard to divine...

    NRLW 2025 expansion - Bulldogs & Warriors

Loving the way Bulldogs are assembling their NRLW squad. Building and rewarding pathways. No chasing after Rugby 7s "stars". So far.

    NRLW 2025 expansion - Bulldogs & Warriors

Good signing for Warriors. Apii probably enjoying her best season of NRLW in 2024. Still got the step and speed off the mark. Still brave and committed. Edited for spelling

    Nine commentary and presentation

Witnessed an even worse example of non-commentary in Cowboys/Tigers NRLW. Tigers scored a good try, multiple pairs of hands involved in the move. Accompanying commentary went something like "watch every medal, every moment live and free on 9 and 9Gem, blah blah blah, stream 20 channels on...

Santos Cup - PNG Womens National Competition

Vipers just fell short, but their try was worth waiting for. Long break, beautiful pass out the tackle, good support line - fantastic Rugby League. All the Santos Cup teams can feel pleased with this first season. The whole comp seems relatively even and competitive.

    NRLW - 2024

Belinda Sharp pulled up Roosters forward Eliza Lopamaua on Sunday for an incorrect PTB. The player stumbled over the ball in a genuine attempt to play it legally. Meanwhile, other players are allowed to deliberately walk over the ball without making the slightest attempt to play it with the...

    Pacific Championships 2024

Bit off-topic, but I was looking at some pics from the SEQ women's GFs at Kougari Oval. Underlined how much Aussie RL benefits from Polynesian migration. Family and friends really get out to support the players. Makes for better events and atmospheres.

    NRLW - 2024

Rude awakening for Sharks in Round 7. The 6-0 record was a false position anyway. Certainly premiership contenders, but I reckon Roosters, Broncos, Knights are all stronger squads. Broncos v Sharks next week will tell us a lot about the Sharks prospects. Of the 2 teams just outside the top 4...

2024 TV and Streaming Ratings Discussion

Very strange on L.U. which posts incur warnings for straying off topic. And which don't.

    NRLW - 2024

I'm not retracting my comment about Gus and his "good moments". A general RL pundit alongside Ruan or Allana is a reasonable balance. However - Sweet Lord! his bad moments test the patience. During the second half of Roosters/Raiders he spent 10 minutes babbling on about the men's round with...

    2024 Crowd Watch

I'm not reading anything concrete into recent headlines. Just observing the circumstantial evidence. With particular focus on the options available to Brisbane Easts in their pursuit of an NRL licence. Have to think they would prefer to emulate the Dolphins and enter the comp with their...

    2024 Crowd Watch

I suggested on last year's crowd thread that increases in various forms of RL participation was one factor feeding through into higher attendances. Every new participant in contact or non-contact forms of the game has a circle of family and friends. All of whom become potential NRL attendees...

    2024 Crowd Watch

This is a mirror image of North Sydney supporters re the proposals for Western Bears. The decoupling scenario implies Wests are already minded to heavily favour the Macarthur Region in all their future plans and marketing. Disenchanted Balmain fans might "give the game away" anyway. Whatever...

    2024 Crowd Watch

Isn't this precisely the point though? The Balmain component of the merged entity is more or less nominal. Other than history, all they bring is the name "Tigers". Which seamlessly blends with the identity of Brisbane Easts. Who just happen to be the club best placed to play an integral role...

    2024 Crowd Watch

The subject of possible traction for a Tigers NRL franchise in SEQ was in question form. If Campbelltown is the future of Wests, would local support be affected by the choice of Magpies over Tigers? Likewise, whether "The Tigers" are based in South-East Queensland or South-West Sydney may be...

    2024 Crowd Watch

Huge image and merch advantage for NRL over AFL. Most traditional RL designs look darned fine. In the late-80s/early-90s NSWRL jerseys were in vogue among League fans in England and NZ. From memory, Balmain was the most popular over here. As the NRL moves towards a 20-team comp, will this idea...

Oz v NZ was mentioned as a potential ratings winner. New Zealand 30 Australia 0 Kiwis are looking for a challenge.
