Of Course Origin still the ultimate?

So what? The English Premier League is ALWAYS traded between the same 3-4 teams and is predictable as f**k when it comes to the winner because the rest of the 20 odd sides just making up the numbers. That doesn't mean the competitions don't have good matches and contests though. For the...

Why did we get smashed by the kiwis?

Simple answer is the Kiwis just walked all over us the forwards and their halves were way more precise in attack (again though - reflection of the forwards; JT was smothered and destroyed because we were always on the back foot).

Origin clearly no longer the pinnacle

Yeah, well champ he did explicitly ask why we all "want the game to fail rather then (sic) thrive" so it's not exactly a matter of opinion.

Origin clearly no longer the pinnacle

I'm just employing his logic. He thinks that those of us who see internationals as increasingly proving themselves more worthy of the tag of pinnacle some how have it in for rugby league, so I can only assume he thinks international league is bad for the game.

Origin clearly no longer the pinnacle

That's what you call a non sequitur. I absolutely want the game to thrive and honestly can't understand how you can think wanting the international game to be more successful than origin (as it should be) is in some way arguing for the sport's failure. To suggest that is frankly bizarre in...

Origin clearly no longer the pinnacle

I'm not arguing it on a personal preference perspective, I'm just arguing the simple logic of it. Origin can't really be considered the best of the best when you the combined talents of those two teams getting smashed by our neighbors in NZ. In a lot of ways your attitude reminds me a lot of...

Origin clearly no longer the pinnacle

To be honest mate I reckon that's a more a reflection of Qld's intense parochialism. As a contest Aus v NZ is now higher quality and more even than Origin. Given that the test team has basically the Qld spine and core, the fact that NZ completely dominated such a star studded Aussie roster full...

Of Course Origin still the ultimate?

Probably right, but they'd all be from QLD... Not many people in NSW arguing that the AUS v NZ games aren't a better contest now.

How can it be a real Test Match if all players play in the same country/competition.

This is a little like asking whether the Rugby Championship shouldn't be considered a genuine international series because almost all the players compete in Super Rugby

    Hong Kong Rugby League

That actually looks pretty cool - good to see the game making some effort to move into the region more

Why are many Aussies so narrow minded ?

It's unfair to paint it as universal I suppose, but I've certainly come across my fair share of Englishmen who almost visibly revulse at the mention of the word 'soccer'

Why are many Aussies so narrow minded ?

    In a nutshell.

Why are many Aussies so narrow minded ?

I suppose that's probably the difference between the countries - in a lot of ways it often feels like soccer (among Anglo Australians at least) is much more middle class and therefore prone that sort of 'chattering'. Speaking of being perplexed though, I've long been perplexed as to why Rugby...

Why are many Aussies so narrow minded ?

They mean what they state - on the whole their fans are the most missionary. Look, you don't have to agree with it if you don't like it, but pigheaded moves from the FFA demanding news outlets call their sport football and not soccer simply isn't rivaled by any other sport here.

Why are many Aussies so narrow minded ?

I haven't come across that, but anecdotes aside, there's nothing on a par with the institutional effort on the part of soccer in this country to force everyone to change the way they refer to their sport. And if you're looking for absurdity, look no further than the FFA.

Why are many Aussies so narrow minded ?

All codes have their zealots, certainly. But soccer is in a class of its own when it comes to the 'missionary' aspect. Heck, they even have their equivalent of telling the pagans that they can't call their gods "gods"; soccer zealots here have for a long time assumed ownership of the word...

The 2022 World Cup may not take place in Qatar

Why are many Aussies so narrow minded ?

That makes you a pagan - not a bad thing by any measure. I watch League, Union, NFL and the AFL. I just don't like soccer... Something which bewilders certain members of my extended family. In a certain sense it feels like soccer fans are by far the most "missionary" inclined of all the...

Why are many Aussies so narrow minded ?

I use the term Bigot because in Australia soccer fans (and British ones to an extent) almost universally refuse to accept any other explanation for the failure of their game here than things like "xenophobia". Generally speaking the rational points I've raised with you just bounce off them and...
