    Round 24 v Storm

Next year we should have Ice, Marto and Garner all ahead on the edge. Hopefully we don’t need to run each of them into the ground as much as this year with Sorro + Mav and Kepoa emerging as adequate cover options. Sorro can start as bench prop and see if he can hold off Patea.

    Round 23 v Eels

Souths made 4 prelims in a row. They were not a dream run outside of being lucky we bundled the Storm out. Parra I wouldn’t describe as a dream run either. Soft year maybe but they were a strong side that built to that grand final over a few years.

    Rumoured & Confirmed Signings - Part 5

Yeah fair point. No need. Plenty of good press and coverage to tackle in the wake of the game (hopefully) to make the signing splash on the Monday.

    Rumoured & Confirmed Signings - Part 5

The Eels statement came out last Wednesday morning so presumably the deal was confirmed Tuesday and 10 days should mean it'll be announced this Friday. Hopefully it includes Ryda who would be the right age to be nicely seasoned around the last year of Leota's deal in 2027.

    Round 23 v Eels

Knights game we seemed to be focussing on getting the ball out to that right edge to get some fluency. I think most of these games we are red hot favourites in Ivan is looking to work thorough particular parts of our game because he has that luxury with our 7/10 being a win against most. I...

    Round 22 v Knights

Solid enough performance. We had enough out but never really looked like losing despite Newcastle having a good crack. Two tries left out there and the Knights second off a forward pass. Iongi looks really sharp with a good toolkit. Can’t say we have anyone else outside maybe Laurie who has the...

Ivan cleary (The alex ferguson of the NRL )

Penrith was in no way oven ready when Ivan started his work with Gus in 2012. We were 12th in 2011 and had been there for a while outside of a freak year in 2010.

    Rumoured & Confirmed Signings - Part 5

We joke about Parra but a guy coming through Penrith’s funnel gives me a stack of confidence that they have the right attitude and work ethic to cut it. A bloke that’s come through Parra does not give me that confidence. Boom running 5/8s come along regularly, they turn into quality halves...

What's a Rugby player got to do with this?

    Rumoured & Confirmed Signings - Part 5

You'd think if he was keen for more money, at some point in the last few years he would have looked at moving into the centres. I know his strengths are probably strengths best utilised as a winger but if I was an elite winger and wanted to maximise my payday, I'd be thinking about proving...

    Round 22 v Knights

Testament to the quality of our core, depth and kids that we can field a side this strong with Edwards, Laurie, May, Alamoti, Garner and Fish out of our top 17 after turning over Crichton, Leniu, Hosking and Cogger in the off season. Knights pack is nothing to sneeze at but damn I worry for...

    Rumoured & Confirmed Signings - Part 5

Except Brian has a long term contract and is home. Fish is the only core guy that has sought a release and it was to go and captain his home club. I don’t buy the moving for mates thing. He can play with his mates at Origin and internationals and live nearby. Only reason I can see him wanting...

    Round 21 v Dragons

Halves are going to be difficult to contain this year, I don’t think we’ve looked this threatening and dynamic since the first half of 2021. Nice to see Cleary immediately look far more assured in defence this week also. No point going on about Tago here but if the rest of that edge is making...

    Rumoured & Confirmed Signings - Part 5

Flegg team is sitting two wins off the top. We truly have fallen a long long way. Only 4 wins ahead of the Eels as well. How does Blaize look defending in the front line? We all know regardless of talent if he’s streaky in defence, Ivan won’t look at him. I wouldn’t be surprised if a boom half...

    Rumoured & Confirmed Signings - Part 5

It’s a much better balanced pack than this year with the obvious downside of the best prop in the game departing. Good edge depth, good prop depth, solid versatility and a bit more impact on offer. I wonder when we will start looking at Yeo moving to the bench to start. Henry/Leota/Smith to...

    Round 21 v Dragons

Bad news for us. In a competition absolutely stacked with fullbacks, he is a huge disadvantage for the Drags. Fuller, Armstrong, Iongi, Laurie, Fa'alogo, Sharpe, Critta, Turuva would all be better options.

    Penrith Panthers lower grades 2024

It's a nice skill to have. Fish has it, we don't use it much but opposition certainly know about it. Presume Smith will take that second ball playing forward role next year but nice to round these guys out even if they are run first, second and third. Aside from anything, things go to hell and...

    Round 21 v Dragons

Yeah kicking game for sure is a big part of it. Luai has stepped up big time but you just can’t replace the best kicking game in history. I expect we probably won’t see many kicks for the in goal now that we can more reliably drive teams back to start inside their 10/20. Handing the ball over in...

    Round 21 v Dragons

It's interesting, coming into this season it looked like our foundation and strength (pack, go forward, kicking game) should not be too impacted by departures given the starting pack and back 3 were intact. I thought where we'd need to make up for the drop in class (Critta) would be Nath/Luai...

    Melbourne or roosters

If we can lock up top two I think we'll be hard to stop. We go into the last 6 weeks reasonably fresh, reasonably healthy and with a period to get some combinations working and tuned up. From 1 or 2 we then face Roosters/Sharks likely and those teams just don't seem to have the mental toughness...
