I tipped the Warriors as an upset but in saying that my other upset was the Panthers so who knows.

Warriors play well in Melbourne though.

Melbourne beat the Warriors 30-12 the last time they played here, round 3 2007 Cam Smith's 100th game and Melbourne still have most of their try scorers from that game they're only missing Matt King.

It's going to 39 again here today and they're leaving the roof open. It's gonna be a tough slog with the decrease of the interchange's especially for the big boys.

39 degrees?! Whoa!
That's probably more than what it was in Townsville last year in the playoffs.

Storm should win,but a Warriors upset is never out of the question.

In all fairness, it's probably going to drop to around the mid 20's by kick off. This won't trouble the Warriors, who have had to endure a very hot summer over here.

I'm glad that the roof will be open though, for the players' and the crowd's sake.

any news on ticket sales?

Not good according to this...

The Age believes there has been a poor response to tonight's game at the Telstra Dome with pre-sales indicating a crowd well below the target figure of 20,000, which would make for a lacklustre kick-off to the Storm's premiership defence.

If there's not a cool change due in then you're dreaming if you think it'll be only in the mid 20's come game time. As mentioned in another post it was still 33 at 9pm last Thursday night so expect much the same if there's no change coming in.

As for the crowd figures, playing it on a Monday night at the TD was always going to go against getting the best possible numbers. Whoever it was who decided to schedule our first game on a Monday and at that venue needs to take a long hard look at themselves.

Fair enough if OP wasn't available but why wouldn't you play it on Saturday night? I would've said Sunday but that would make it clash with the GP, but if it were on Saturday night i think the figure would be a lot better than it will be tonight. Personally i'll be happy with 15K tonight when it should've been more.

You'd know better than me about Melbourne's climate, so I'll take your word for it. I was just going on the basic assumption that when the sun goes down, it tends to get colder.

Still heat isn't going to be as bigger factor as you would like to think. I'd be more worried about you guys trying to win more than 1 of your first 5 games. Something that the last few Premiers before you have failed to do.

For one, i agree that the heat won't be any more of a factor on you blokes than what it will on us. We might be more used to it but both teams have to play in it so it all evens out. As for your other point, i saw that stat as well but it means jack sh*t really.

Different teams, different players, different coaches etc. Go back further than the past few years and i reckon you might find that the vast majority of teams have much better records than that. You only have to go back the 3 years before you were talking about and see that of the 5 first up games that each premiers of the previous year played, they won a combined total 13 of them.

IF it does happen to us though and we do get off to a sh*t start, it'd be more to do with coincidence than anything else.

100 minutes from kick-off and it's currently 37.6 degrees.

Witty grew up in the Toowoomba heat so he'll be right!
Toowoomba's on the mountain....it's freezing most times through the year:lol:

It depends on when the sun goes down and how hot it was before it did and the rate of humidity.
Either way,it's not going to be an enormous factor.
