Why is it called a differential penatly?
Why can't you kick for goal?

a differential penalty, awarded for technical breaches when a scrum is packed (as opposed to foul play within a scrum). A penalty goal cannot be scored from a differential penalty

Yes, I get all that, but what is the reasoning behind each point? FFS rugby league is a simple mans' game - how the hell is anyone supposed to know what this is all about. It makes rugby union look like Connect 4.

Back in the day when scrums were more prevalent and a contest, games would get bogged down like Union does with these sorts of penalties and constant shots as goal.

Thank you, that makes sense.

What did souths do wrong in the scrum then, and how was this opposed to a foul?

Panthers still have the honour of the worst collapse ever...to the Cows in 1998.
Tonight was the 2nd worst ever (equal 2nd)

Yes I know. It happened on my birthday as well and I was at the game. 26-0 up at halftime - lost 36-28 - a night to forget but its hard to. A part of me was happy that the cowboys were on the end of that collapse tonight ;-)

Ref's seem to love pulling differential penalties out of the bag during really close games right at the death. They never happen otherwise.

I remember one in almost the same situation when we played St. George about 5 years ago.

Why the hell did Souths not go for the field goal earlier ??...They had field position and chose to run it numerous times.

A good game but it shows the definite gap in class between teams in the NRL.

Tallis is diabolical, especially calling the Cowboys, at times he and his mate last night had me wanting to turn it off

Interested in peoples thoughts on that Cowboys try that was given, when they went to the Video looking for obstruction.

I thought that the collision between Harris and the Souths defender opened up the hole that the runner took advantage of to score. Anyone else agree ?

No...the pass was thrown before the collisio and would not have been a factor in the try being scored.

A good decision but can see both sides of the argument.:)

They were taking up as much of the clock as possible, when they accidently got a repeat set, who wouldn't?
