NRL Preview and Tips - Round 22
BY Paul Zines

These two teams would have to be the most over-achieving in this year’s competition. Both were inflicted with heavy defeats last weekend and this now becomes a must-win game. Canberra was very much in the match against Brisbane and the score-line failed to acknowledge this. They are back at home where they love to play. This week they are up against another team that also enjoys throwing the ball around.

Joe Picker returns for the home-side replacing Melbourne bound Ryan Hinchcliffe, who could miss the rest of the year with a broken thumb. I tipped the Panthers to beat the competition leaders last Friday night and they let me down terribly. They look disorganised and complacent as they tried to match the Sea Eagles instead of playing their usual exciting brand of footy.

Half-back Todd Carney is still having his problems sorted out by the Canberra club as Marc Herbert continues to fill his shoes with plenty of confidence.

Penrith have only won one of the last seven matches between the two sides. Expect a very high scoring affair especially if the weather stays dry, but I can’t go past the home-side.

weather reports

sunday

Showers and a casual 9 f**king degrees!

There is a reasonable chance those showers will be sleet, and a slight chance of snow at this stage...wasn't it that game against the Tigers in 2000 or something when it last snowed during a game at Canberra?

Its had a bit more of an upgrade now...

Showers, chance of snow.
City: Min 0 Max 7

"A second stronger change will cross the ACT on Sunday bringing some very cold weather with scattered showers, falling as snow to low levels, [600 metres] around the ACT and surrounding districts."

The stadium itself is around 620m elevation so things could get a bit interesting!

One team is leap-frogging the Warriors today.

I'd prefer if that was Penrith...so go the Panthers!!!

Should start snowing again in Canberra within the hour...perfect timing for the game! (for those of us who want to see it snowing at a game for the first time since 2000 :p)

I dont wanna see it snowing. That would give the Raiders a pretty big advantage over the Panthers.

If we lose we're down to 11th, if we win we're up to 6th. We'll see what the panthers are made of today.

Our Under 20's aren't looking likely to win. But considering who we're missing... we've done a pretty good job so far:

Masada Iosefa,Wade Graham,Joseph Paulo,Lachlan Coote,Jamie Theoharous,Daniel Penese,Shane Blackett,Greg Waddell,Trent Iselin,Sonny Tuigamala,Brad Goodwin,Junior Tia Kilifi,Matthew Wright,Michael Mate and Chris Ward.

Hopefully we have the bulk of these players back for the finals. Even with our depth, i can't see us winning a premiership without most of those players.

Team Changes:
Penrith:
Lewis - Out
Daniela In.
Puletua, Woolnough & Aiton not playing
Canberra
Jones - out, Costigan in. Thurling to the bench, Chalk to start.
That would mean:

1. Rhys Wesser
21. Geoff Daniela
3. Michael Jennings
2. Brad Tighe
5. Michael Gordon
4. Maurice Blair
6. Wade Graham
8. Tony Puletua
9. Luke Priddis
10. Petero Civoniceva (C)
11. Frank Pritchard
12. Trent Waterhouse
13. Nathan Smith
Interchange:
14. Matthew Bell
15. Junior Moors
16. Joseph Paulo
17. Masada Iosefa

Raiders are going to destroy that team. We needed Masada Iosefa in the halves to stand any chance IMO.
