Cowboys star fullback Matt Bowen will miss this weekend's round 8 match against the Rabbitohs with swelling in his knee.
Coach Graham Murray has prescribed a week's rest to prepare him for the Sharks home game on 10 May.
Ash Graham will go back to fullback and Ty Williams will go onto the wing, with Ben Vaeau coming into the forwards.
Murray is confident that despite missing players to injury and Jacob Lillyman to suspension, the team is up to the task.
"We've been through this situation last year, we've had a few of our starting players out, but the others have stepped up which we expect again.
"The last four weeks we've played some pretty handy football and at the moment the 17 we've picked is the best team we can pick for the Cowboys."
Bowen played the last two games against the Warriors and Melbourne Storm but was sidelined before that with the troublesome knee.

And if the entire team is wiped out with the flu, then Soufs might get home in a forfeit

Make no mistake, a win here could kickstart Soufs if they start to gel - it's a four point win with the bye next week and suddenly they're off the floor and mixing it with the bottom feeders.

No Bowen, meh. TBH, his kick returns and form under the high ball has gone back to 2006 style, it was p!ssng me off watching him hit the ball up half a$$ed on saturday night against the Storm, you watch Preston Campbell who is about the same size, and he makes Bowen look quite the skirt.............. Ty back in though, that is not good, this is what i woul do, assuming that Harris and Ca$h are fit to play

1. Graham
2. Williams (john)
3. Farrar
4. Harris
5. Henry
6. Burns
7. JT

8. Cash
9. Payne
10. Webb
11. Bluey
12. Faust
13. Smith

14. Bartlett
15. Weston
16. Vaeau
17. Watts

I wouldn't be letting Ty Williams within cooee of this game to be honest.........

Thats a bit rough and besides, it wouldn't mean a great deal because after that we have Canberra at home followed by the Storm. If we did snag a win I think we would still be sitting on four points for a while, I think from about round 12 onwards will be our time to shine. We will have pretty close to a full team on the park by then and we play the Dragons and Warriors, followed by another bye before we get into Origin time. We should snag a few upsets between round 12 and the end of the comp. Mind you we have the toughest draw now of any team, as everyone we play is in front of us!

To be honest i dont mind that news as much as it might seem weird. Bowen out will force us not to get complacent and think we have the game won before kickoff. I like graham at FB as his replacement too. As strange as it sounds im more confident knowing that we wont have a full strength team, it should keep their minds on the job more.

Yeah I agree,I like Ash Graham at fullback but still his defence has been very suss.
Matty's confidence appears to be a bit on and off again.

JUST IN: North Queensland fullback Matt Bowen could be a last minute inclusion to the Cowboys' team to take on the Rabbitohs on Sunday afternoon.

Bowen was yesterday ruled out of the clash due to a knee injury, but boarded a flight to Sydney on Saturday afternoon once it was revealed his replacement - Ty Williams - is suffering a strained hamstring.

The switch has not yet been officially confirmed by the Cowboys.

Bowen missed two weeks earlier this season with a knee problem, but after returning for two games he suffered swelling in the same knee.

Despite earlier saying Bowen needed time to rest and recover, coach Graham Murray is expected to take the gamble and play his entertaining fullback.

Williams will now head a long list of casualties for the Cowboys with forwards Luke O'Donnell, Sione Faumuina, Shane Tronc and Matt Scott also out injured and Jacob Lillyman to miss two weeks with suspension.
