2UE news (4pm) is carrying the story that only 10 fans met the Storm players at Melbourne Airport. Huge support.

and there was only 1,000 at their home waiting for them

thats as many as Parra who saw them last night as well and we lost

it will never take off in Melbourne

3 GF's and in the finals most years and nobody cares

Maybe it wasn't publicised.
As if people would camp out at Melb airport waiting for them to arrive rather than officially cheer them on at Optus Oval

Who cares? Stop trying to make a fool out of yourself. We lost, get over it ffs. Move on, do whatever you do in the off season.

I'm a huge Parra fan that moved to Melbourne quite a few years ago and this is something that I kept reminding my hecklers as I boarded the plane from Sydney this morning back home in my full Parra regalia. eg. "Shame noone in Melbourne apart from you cares about this win..."

When i turned on 24 Hr sports radio network SEN getting in the car to drive back from the airport, I was preparing myself for at least some interviews with the Melb players, a bit of the usual typically uneducated analysis that they fumble through, or some live crosses to the celebrations. Keep in mind that this is a 24 HOUR sports network and the AFL season ended over a week ago. The Spring Carnival is yet to kick off. We are not yet in the throes of a cricket season or the Australian Open tennis or golf tournaments. Not a single word was spoken about the Melbourne Storm in the 30 mins I spent in the car listening to this radio station.

Don't get me started.

YAWN.

Pity they dont just award the trophy to the team with the most fans every year eh.
Pity the vast majority of victorians are too anal to embraced a successful team that the NRL/News wastes money on hand over fist year in year out :?

To understand the mentality of the majority of Victorians.
I ask you: Would you embrace the Sydney Swans?

That's what your dealing with. Its the same mentality that needs to cracked.

yeah - i have actually .... i realise there are alot of nsw/qld ppl who are too anal to embrace aussie rules also, but the support sydney gets is MILES ahead of the storm and the swans only won 1 GF and runners up once also. The fact is, vitorians as a whole are FAR more anal about it than league states

the swans had a very dodgy period financially and looked like going under, but as soon as they got success on the field they got stronger off it and stayed fairly strong - the storm are the best team of the last decade and sh*t just isn't happening - so I just can't ever see it happening

let me also add - what they showed on TV looked like alot more than 1000 ppl at whatever groud they were at .... and tbh i reckon the majority of the storm's biggest fans would have actually been on the planes - ie not waiting at the airport

I think once they start playing at their new ground their support base will grow. I hope for them it does anyway.

Can someone answer the question I keep asking:

If no-one in Victoria cares about the Storm, why do we have a higher average attendance than some of the Sydney teams?

Just cause we don't have 20,000 bandwagon fans that have never been to parramatta turn up for the GF with brand new replica jerseys on doesn't mean we don't have a supporter base.

Our crowds this season have been anywhere between 10,500 and 16,000 which is pretty typical for some teams in the "NRL heartland" no? We had 28,000 at our prelim final and thats with no away fans. You guys had 35,000 fans at best at your prelim final, and thats not a hell of a lot more than 28k.

Here are the official home attendances for 2009:

Melbourne: 12,000
Parramatta: 13,100

Hardly any difference. Especially since you guys would perhaps have a thousand fans from an away team at the game, making the number of home fans (we get maybe 30 away fans total) for both clubs exactly the same.

So that's the facts. Come on guys, accept you lost without starting to bag off the other teams fans, city etc etc.

even if it wasnt publiscised then thats poor on the melbourne medias part, look at the sydney media absolutly rose the parramatta bandwagon till yesterday but melbourne won the thing and have a lack of support? come on even if u dont like RL that much get behind ur local team even when sydney swans won sydney went pretty crazy

now whose the more passionate supporters?

You guys were deserved winners last night no doubt about it, but your figures are somewhat distorted by the fact that by and large those supporters are new south welshman and queenslanders and kiwis who now reside in melbourne. Our great game has barely caused a ripple of interest amongst victorians and is debatable if it ever would. It's a tad ironic that the leagues best team is one which the average victorian would struggle to name 2 or 3 of it's players
