Refs got it wrong, says refs' boss Finch

DAVID BENIUK
March 22, 2010 - 2:19PM

NRL referees' boss Robert Finch has conceded his officials made two errors, costing Manly and Parramatta points in Sunday's match at Parramatta Stadium.

Finch says the referees erred in awarding Manly's first try and an obstruction penalty should have been awarded to the Eels.

He also says the final pass for centre Joel Reddy's crucial try for Parramatta was forward.

Sea Eagles' coach Des Hasler blasted the match officials after his side's 24-20 loss.

"I'm pretty disappointed with the team's performance yesterday afternoon," Finch told reporters on Monday.

"There were two incidents in this game which led to points - the first being the first try that Manly scored which was clearly a breach of the key indicators.

"An obstruction should have been awarded against the Manly side and a penalty to the Eels."

"And the (Joel Reddy) try that the Eels scored ... the last part was clearly forward."

Finch said a decision on whether touch judge Gavin Reynolds would be dropped for round three would be made on Tuesday.

Just finished watching a replay of the game, and I must admit that THAT pass was blantantly forward

But you know what was just as blatant .... THAT FREAKING OBSTRUCTION FROM MATAI THAT LED TO THE SEA EAGLES FIRST TRY. It was as obvious as Cameron Smiths effort the previous night WHO GOT PENALIZED FOR IT.

So all you hypocritical short-term memory whingers out there who think the refs gave the Eels. SHUT THE F*CK UP!

That's all.

Ghoulies, not baiting, but did you agree with Brisbane's first try last week being awarded??
I'd have to see it again mate, but from what I do remember, it was a different situation altogether to this one. Matai's run was a breach of a fairly black and white part of the obstruction rule - you can't run behind a team mate. But if I remember rightly, the Folau try was deemed alright because the video showed the Cowboys defender choosing to move in on the decoy runner, instead of the fullback sweeping around him. I'll watch it again to see if it's as simple as that.

Jeez this thread is funny...blame one pass (it was forward, but Manly scored off an acknowledged shepherd, so big deal) instead of the 14 missed tackles that lead up to the pass...or the dozens and dozens in the course of our comeback. Not to mention the dumb penalties that could easily have resulted in a sin bin...

You guys can sugar coat it all you want, blame whatever makes you feel better...but the referees didn't decide that game. We were sh*t, Spraytan did his usual momentum based refereeing against us in the first half, and then he did it against you lot in the second half. He was simply as sh*t as he is every week, the difference is most sides don't self destruct at the first sign of a comeback. I assume it was the referees fault last week when the Tigers did the same thing...please

I feel for the decent Manly fans (ok, so just Dutchy, there aren't many others) but that pass didn't lose the game...
