We really should win this on form. But then again, on form the Dogs should have beaten us on Monday night....

I'll say Souths by 20 simply because we should be too strong up the middle but I won't be surprised by any result here. So far, its been one of those seasons.

We don't have a middle, so yes, you'll belt us up the middle.

Who knows.... not confident, but I'll still go with Souths in a come from behind victory with the same score as round 3 at BlueTongue last year 22-12.

John Lang's pre game address to Souths: "Do whatever you want in the first half, have a picnic, play hopscotch, it doesn't matter. The half time siren is Newcastle's greatest weakness, exploit this."

Newcastle fullback Shannon McDonnell to play with broken thumb Saturday
April 08, 2010

Newcastle fullback Shannon McDonnell will play Saturday's NRL match against South Sydney with his broken thumb in a splint.
McDonnell cracked a bone in the last tackle of Monday's last-gasp 34-30 loss to Penrith but has avoided surgery and is hopeful of playing on as the injury heals.

"It's all right, I'll get through the game all right, just strap it up and I'll try not to think about it,'' he said.

"I'll wear a splint in the game and it will be fine.

"I have a slight break in one of the bones but it's not too bad, I don't need surgery.

"It won't need a rest, I'll sort of play it out and it will heal itself."

McDonnell has been unable to train fully with the Knights this week but is confident of getting through an intense final session on Friday and avoiding a pain-killing injection for the Bluetongue Stadium clash with the Rabbitohs.

"(It was) just a light session today, not really worrying about catching the ball yet so I'll worry about that tomorrow and see how we go," he said.

Former Wests Tigers back McDonnell has replaced Kurt Gidley at fullback as the captain recovers from a serious hamstring injury.

The Knights have lost three straight games since their opening round upset of Canterbury.

LATE MAIL - Glenn Jackson (SMH)
South Sydney coach John Lang will make a decision today on his squad for their clash with Newcastle in Gosford tomorrow. Michael Crocker, attempting to play his first match of the season, trained relatively well yesterday but will be assessed again today. Newcastle centre Adam MacDougall (broken thumb) will be replaced by Wes Naiqama. Cameron Ciraldo will join the bench. Isaac De Gois still has to be cleared after being concussed against Penrith and fullback Shannon McDonnell has a fracture in his thumb, but hopes to play.

My mail is that they were just waiting to see how Crocker pulled up from yesterdays training session. He trained very well, but he also trained well last week but pulled up sore which is why he was scratched for the Dogs game.

Apparently, he has recovered well this week and will play.

I think Newcastle might scare the Rabbits in this one.

Souths will start strong, but I wonder if Monday night's performance against the Dogs will hurt them late in the match.
