1 Nobody doubts Holmes ability as a winger. So why death ride him?
2. ET & Rat, Out grew winger position by age 22 & were fully cemented in positions creating trys. What? ET debuted at fullback and Rat played mostly wing for us except for a few games here and there. Rat left us age 25 and only changed up his position at the very end of his tenure. He was a winger at age 22.
As for the tries thing, it took Val just one more game to reach 50 tries than Rat.
3. Rat changed codes & became one of the best players , for the country , in both codes. Rat debuted for Australia at age 22. Doubtful that Val will become a dual international but at the same age Val is slightly ahead of him with international rep honours, but has a premiership in his kit bag.
4. Et Stayed at the Sharks, forgoing HUGE AMOUNTS being thrown at him. Yes. Hardly relevant unless Holmes leaves. He has already re-signed once despite interest from others and is currently contracted to the Sharks.
5. Holmes threatens to LEAVE the Sharks, every 2 seconds he gets criticised, despite being the teams highest paid player. Rubbish on all counts. Moylan is the highest paid player at the club. Holmes has never threatened to leave.
6. ET Debuted at 17. Correct. He also debuted for Australia and SOO at the exact same age as Holmes (21).
7. Rat Debuted a few weeks after his 19th Birthday. So did Val!
8. Rat holds the point scoring records for Cronulla. Australian Rugby league & Australian Rugby Union. We all know Rat was a great player. The point is at the same point of their careers their achievements are similar. Rat is helped in point scoring by being a goal kicker (and his father still holds the point scoring record at the sharks)
9. By Age 21, ET was playing back to back seasons between Cronulla & the UK, in order to stay at the Sharks. Not sure how relevant, players do not have this option anymore and I doubt his motivation was to "stay at Cronulla".
10. The representative records of Rat & Et will never come under threat by Holmes. The competion is already chasing him as his development stalls & even this year was in competion from 31 year old darius boyd & the human clutz, Corey Oates. Pffffft. Val has played 11 matches for Australia already more than Rat (8) did total and almost half as many as ET did in his entire career (25). He's played the same number of Origin games those guys did at 22. ET had played 3 games at 22 and Rat played 3 age 21 but didn't play again until he was 23.
11. Good wingers are handy. Not essential. To have one as your highest paid player, is detrimental to the club. HE'S NOT THE HIGHEST PAID PLAYER AT THE CLUB.
12. Its not Holmes fault how much he gets paid, good on him
13. It is his fault, to not meet payment expectations , every game, which he rarely, if ever, does. Wrong.Interest in the market from clubs like the Cowboys, rep selection and match statistics prove you wrong on every facet.
