NRL Previews - Titans v Dragons (Round 1)

Big effort by the defending premiers to get their best team on the field for this match after essentially playing 2 ‘big games’ already this year. The Charity Shield is not simply a trial match; and of course the World Club Challenge win was impressive. The Dragons will not be fatigued from this and as always will bring their impenetrable defensive line to Skilled Park on Saturday night to face the Titans.

The home side will be disciplined, aggressive, honest and enthusiastic. This approach would normally get them a win but against St George Illawarra, it may not be enough. The visitors will see Greg Bird attacking their right side, and strangle it. They will see Scott Prince floating across field, picking up hole runners; they strangle it. The speed of the Titans superb wingers, Mead and Gordon? choke the life out of them. Saints defend as they do and come away with the 2 points.

My Tip: Dragons 18-12

Saints should win, but regardless, the Australian betting markets and tipsters are going overboard. Titans are one of the hardest teams to beat at home, and yet they are outsiders by more than $2 in some cases!

I don't agree with the ruling for that Boyd try. The referee clearly interfered with play, should have been a scrum to the Dragons on the 10.

Cant help but think if that had happened to almost any other club it would have been ruled no try .. Dragons = refs golden child.

It happened at such a vital time in the game too. Took the wind completely out of the Titans, shame common sense cannot be applied in these situations.

It's a shame that the ref got in the way but if they changed the rule, players/coaches would exploit it. The ref was to blame. Total lack of awareness. A good ref would have backpedalled straight towards the dead ball line and out of the way. What a goose.

The refs ruled that the player ran into the ref which would be a fair enough call but its obvious the ref moved into the players running line so should have been a scrum

It was a correct call but the rule is grossly unfair. Part of this favouring attacking teams BS that we seemed to have adopted from crickets BOTD law.
Well good to see we'll be discussing this and not expansion clubs over the next week.
