I think he's a yard or two short of full pace post hip injury, backed himself but couldnt get away.

I went outside for a ciggie after the try and came back to the video ref decision, so only got to see it once on replay - Did Chris look left?

He clearly looks right and sees the Manly defenders swarming on his support, he passes that way, Manly make the tackle anyway. He goes left, and we score. But I didn't notice him look that direction.

That could be the very simple explanation as to why he took on the defender himself.
