Not quite..

If they beat you by 20, their F/A goes up by 20 to +17 and yours goes down 20 to +9.

So if Souths lose by 1 and Newcastle wins by 1, Souths will need to win by 17 or maybe 18.

Don't think either game will be decided by 1 though, so it may end up much larger than 17/18 points.

No they only have to beat you by 18 in that case, whatever they beat you by gets added to their F/A and subtracted from yours. Still hard to see it happening up in Newcastle but it is possible. It would make the game exciting though.
