just a rule query concerning the vid ref melbourne try. Ryan had his leg under the ball and anthony quinn pulls his leg out from underneath the ball. Surely thats illegal?

Amazing how much the refs favoured the Tigers tonight, every 50/50 all went their way. The thing is if the Big 3 were playing the Stor. would of gotten all the calls to go their way. So is the NRL a superstar league like the NBA, where certain players can infliuence how the refs rule during the game? No doubt Cam Smith would of gotten a few dodgy penalties like he usually does during games just by the way he interacts with refs

Care to elaborate on these 50/50 calls?

I thought they went both ways. Both got penalties in touch and go situations which could have been ruled knock on.
Humble got pulled up on a dubious forward pass call, while Quinn got done for a knock on which looked to go back.
The only other controversy I can recall was the VR decision, where a straight try was given with no real clear evidence.

Beau can whinge all he likes (as he did all night) about them copping it early in the season but the simple fact is they deserved every bit of criticism they copped. They've done well to turn it around but before he mouths off too much there's a hell of a long way to go in the season and they have a long way to go if they can only sneak over the line against a Storm side without 3 of their spine as well as Chambers whos been very good as well.

As mentioned while there's a long way to go in the season and while i still class them as a team that can win the comp if everything goes their way, I didn't see anything from the Tigers tonight that will worry too many of other teams. they still have the tendency to be every bit as bad as they are good IMO

Tigers were missing Farah and Ellis (and Moltzen, lol) so not like they were at their best either.

Anyway, beau certainly has shown a big improvement from where he was this time last year

Obviously the storm players out where huge however Farah and Ellis aren't exactly nobodies. Cashmere, tedesco and Moltzen also make our full strength 17. The conditions tonight kept the storm in the game IMO

Either way the only way to look at tonight's game is that it gives no indication whatsoever as to what these two teams could do later in the year.

The tigers trained all off season with a spine of :

1. Tedesco
6. Marshall
7. Moltzen
9. Farah

Three were missing tonight

Okay...so here's my two cents.

Storm looked disjointed and lacked no cohesion in attack. Kostjasyn is not first grade standard IMO and when they got Luke Kelly on then they looked a lot more capable of at least scoring some points when on attack.

Ryles, Lowrie and Bromwich were strong but I question Bellamy using Manu in this game..he looked unfit and lacked match fitness.

Widdop tried hard but his kicking game really did not threaten the Tigers one bit...accuracy was the key and kicking to the corners did not occur but he will learn from this.

West Tigers looked strong from the start and exploited the absence of Chambers with Tuqiri having the run of the green in the first half.

A couple of observations and not a whinge...Tigers have mastered the art of holding down in the tackle and got away with it a lot tonight. Adam Blair plays hard and tough but cheap shots make him little more than a grub IMO.

For a team that was only missing Farah, the one concern I would have if I was a Tigers fan was that they looked slow and dead in the last 20 minutes and relied on Marshall to keep them ticking over. This will bite them big time come finals time if they Sheens does not use his interchange wisely.

Storm kept them to 4 and could have won it or at least taken it to golden point if they had have gone wide in their last attacking move of the game.

Bellamy wont be fussed with this loss because with the SOO players back, IMO Storm would have had the Tigers measure.

Neither team played anywhere near their best, and were missing a number of players - especially the Storm with the big 3. Happy to take the 2 points and focus on next week.

The Storm have comparatively little to offer when missing them and if Cronk, Slater or especially Smith went down with a season ending injury next week, they will struggle to make top 4 and be almost no chance to make the GF - he's that good.

The Tigers are also missing Tedesco more than many fans of other teams would realise - he really is a massive talent with huge potential that few have had the chance to see. Add Ellis and Farah to that list, and while it doesn't stack up to the lofty heights of Cronk, Slater and Smith, it's still a trio of players that any club would gladly have.

That's a whinge.

Melbourne were holding down all night and were rightfully penalised. The play the ball was as slow as I've seen it all year.

As somebody else said, if we lose we're ridiculed and if we win, everybody point to the missing origin players in the Storm line-up. We only had to play well enough to beat our opposition. There's no point in entertaining hypotheticals. You could just as easily speculate about all the Tigers' bombed chances in the first 60 mins. BTW the Tigers were without a host of players as well. The missing players from the Tigers teams are obviously not in the same league as the Storm's absent players but they still make a difference.

It was a decent game considering who was out.

Happy to get the win.

Watching the main game and bits of the NYC it is obvious how much last weeks conditions backing up to similar conditions tonight really sapped the players energy quickly.

Quinn and Kostjacin are low rent grubs as well
