Manly won that with our defense, we still have a way to go with the ball in hand but we are heading in the right direction

manly were too good for us today. killed us on both flanks , especially our left.no excuses today.

We played well tonight in defence, but I think if
Inglis had played the score might have been different.

I think you guys will have learnt a lot from tonights
game and with Inglis back next week you guys
will get back on track and give the Semi's a real
shake.

And that my fellow forum dwellers, is whats known in colloquial terms, as a footballing lesson.

Souths are talented, but they are still teenagers in terms of their development. They were playing against the best men in the business tonight.

Said it last week, Manly will win the comp.

How does this team keep flying under the radar? They know their shit, dont panic when they lose and have a healthy serving of champions. Not just good players - champion players. THey have two of the last 5 comps, that should have been three and I'm happy to lay my hard earned on them making it back to back this year.

As a Saints fan, I believe we were a more dominant team at our best from 2009-to mid 2011, but Manly, respect, they are the best finals team I've seen and know how to get it done. They never seem to be out of form.

Well played Eagles. Souths can take a look at that tonight and see exactly where they are at in terms of even thinking about winning a cop just yet. A rookie half and a dud 6 aren't going to get it done.

How f**king good is Killer? He's the best centre I;ve seen play the game. Better than Meninga, Renouf, Gasnier - you name em, Jamie Lyon is a better footballer than all of em.

I wouldn't disagree with you there. He has a more complete game than any centre I've seen. He is so composed in any situation and he can create chances from nothing. The ultimate competitor.

Back to the game...Manly just gave Souths a friendly reminder of what finals footy is all about. Last time they made the finals they lost to Manly 5 tries to 1. Sounds familiar, they now know what they'll be subjected to in 4 weeks.

So the penalty count was 6 to 2. For impartial fans, was Manly that bad with their discipline?

No, they weren't. A few dubious calls for stripped ball added to that count.

Manly just too good. Better halves. Watmough enormous. So too Brent Kite. Glenn Stewart far from fit and little involvement in attack other than catch and pass. Otherwise, he is walking behind the play. Tony Williams limited involvement. Kieran Foran just starting to warm up. Jamie Lyon is a freak.

Look out. They will be peaking at the right time.

I agree, although Meninga, Renouf were ahead of my time. But it's good to hear a non-Manly fan say something like that.

Pretty happy with tonight's performance tbh. Plenty of improvement left, but a comfortable win in the end.

South's fans shouldn't be writing off 2012 at all just yet. They'll learn a lot from tonight, they are still a massive force this year.

Manly haven't had their full strength team at any time this year, if they do get everyone on the park come finals time I don't think anyone will beat them.

I'd just like to congratulate the Souths players for a good tough game, and for only infringing on the rulebook once in the first 78 minutes. Your discipline was amazing. I didn't see any Rabbits players slow the ruck down at all, nor were they ever offside.

Obviously Coach Maguire has them reading the rulebook after lights out.

A for effort boys!!!!!!!!!

Manly were great, credit to them.

We're clearly still a step behind the top teams such as Melbourne, Bulldogs and Manly. They show up for the big games but we still have very little big game experience.

I think it was a loss we needed. Next week vs the Sharks becomes important in getting our momentum back at the right time.

EVERYTIME we lead in a game the refs start rigging it against us to give the losing team a go. About time we got the same favours.
What a load of bull, the stats were in the papers during the week,I said it in lasts weeks match thread,Souths have been getting a rails run with the refs this year, the stats prove it,good win Manly.

They've won their last two. In those two games they scored a combined 32 points and won by a combined 4 points. Before that they lost 2 in a row. And that's a sign of their halves playing like their premiership winning 2011 form?

Finally home from the game, just a quick post before bed:

Manly were very good tonight and we were a bit flat. Sutton wasn't there at all and Everingham/Taylor had shockers. That said, I'm not sure how good we'd have had to have been tonight to beat Manly, they played brilliantly.

I'm not going to cop out and trot that bullshit line about "needing a loss", that's garbage and anyone that ever says that is lying to themselves. Nobody wants to lose and we certainly didn't 'need' to lose tonight. But we were outplayed, completely. Sometimes...that's how it goes.

Oh, and it was f**king cold. F**k you Gosford.

Mate you know how us Parra fans detest Lyon for what he did to our club, he could have been a Parra great but he farked us over. But i know when to conceded that he is a great player to watch, i love how when he knows there could be something on he straightens his run right up the guts and gets a good 10 metres to get his team on the front foot and you know the next play will be a quick out to Evans or Foran to Stewart in the opposite corner. His defence is top notch too

Plus BM stop pleading the case that the refs were against you tonight because it was by far the opposite way. Everything went the Bunnies way tonight, unfortunately they just weren't good enough or hungry enough to get it off a Manly side who showed a new top 8 team how it should be done at this time of the season. Might not have been a flashy win for Manly but they got the job done.

IMO take Bulldogs out of that list.

Manly and Melbourne are the only 2 teams in the top 8 at the moment who are top teams leading into the finals.

They have been there and done it on numerous occasions, they know what is needed. Dogs don't have a halfback but they have a coach who knows what is needed from his players but i'm still very reserved about the Dogs. I [refer Souths chances than Dogs tbh.

Souths were sent back to school tonight.

You never 'need' a loss at this time of the year. Sometimes it happens... Sometimes teams are beaten comprehensively like the bunnies were tonight. They will need a couple of more gears if they are going to compete. Manly are only slowly warming up.

The 2nd half by Manly was superb. The first half was a waste. Tooves has a bit of work to do, but they are coming good at the right time.
