Manly were great, credit to them.

We're clearly still a step behind the top teams such as Melbourne, Bulldogs and Manly. They show up for the big games but we still have very little big game experience.

I think it was a loss we needed. Next week vs the Sharks becomes important in getting our momentum back at the right time.

Have to agree with natheel to take the bulldogs off that list. Souths can beat the dogs. Your biggest hurdle in the finals will be manly and melbourne.

Manly dominated every facet of the match.

Foran and Lyon in particular had very good games.

It was our worst performance since our match against the Roosters.

Difference is that decent teams like Manly put the foot on the throat and don't leave the door open for miracle comebacks.

On a venue related note, Bluetongue Stadium is a great ground to watch league at but they definitely need to get a new video screen as the picture quality is dreadful on the current one.

Will Souths learn the right lesson from this game? We'll see next week.

Exactly right mate.

Crucial match against the Sharks next week.

On the positive side of things Inglis will be back and Asotasi will most likely be there as well.

IMO take Bulldogs out of that list.

Manly and Melbourne are the only 2 teams in the top 8 at the moment who are top teams leading into the finals.

They have been there and done it on numerous occasions, they know what is needed. Dogs don't have a halfback but they have a coach who knows what is needed from his players but i'm still very reserved about the Dogs. I [refer Souths chances than Dogs tbh.

Winning 10 in a row and beating those two teams during that streak doesn't get you on that list?

@ everyone bitching about the penalty count. We won last week with a 1-5 count, this week we lost with a 6-2 count. It happens.

As for the result, meh. We lost. We were due. We need to learn from it. Next week we're at full strength and hopefully hurting from last night. I wasn't confident going into this game but am VERY confident going into next weeks.

My thoughts exactly on Manly. Melbourne are struggling a bit. Souths are a long way off yet. They got a schooling last night.

Outside the top 4, I can only really see the Cowboys being a serious player in September.

Dogs are going unreal, but there is nothing on the line yet. I don't believe any of Keating, Hodkinson or Romelo at half can win a comp without a dominant 6. Reynolds is just about my favorite player in the game at present, but he's also very green.

I cannot go past Manly. They showed Souths up last night. Souths had no game plan, and, as in the past when it wasn;t all going their way, Sutton was invisible and Taylor wanted to be a centre.

Get your houses and first borns on Manly.

Why do the Bulldogs need a dominant half. They haven't needed one all year. That's why the forwards are doing almost all of the ball playing

Because come finals time the halves are going to step up and teams like Melbourne and manly and even souths with good generals will be teams that will be hard to beat when it comes down to the crunch

But the Bulldogs do have those generals. Just not in the halves. Do you think that the ball playing skills of Kasiano Graham and Pritchard are going to disappear. I'm not trying to have a go at you I just don't know why so many are keen to write them off

Ok look at parra in 09 (I know dogs are better but you can compare them quite well) barba is their most dominant player. Hayne was eels. Parra had some good forwards who were good with ball playing like the dogs did but when it came down to it against a team with cronk and smith two very good players around the ruck and a good half parra lost. The lack of experience in the halves let them down. I can see that happening with dogs. Now I could very well be proven wrong but I just don't see dogs winning it this year. Keating done a very good job for a usually inconsistent player. Hodkinson would have been good if he stayed healthy. But they have a hooker at half and a green five eight. That's just how I see it. They got off to a very good start against Newcastle but once knights took it to them their attack fell away an had to rely on their defence. If a team like manly take it to the dogs from the opening minute then they will come out on top. Give the dogs a head start and you are in trouble. Good teams won't let this happen especially in the finals

Ugh - BM, just cop the fact that we were crap, Manly were great, and move on. There were no excuses last night. And please drop all the 'loss we had to have' bullshit. It just rings completely hollow.

On another note, I do think the Sharks might be in for some punishment next weekend. Madge will be absolutely fuming about that performance, and with GI and Roy in next week, I think we'll be charging out of the blocks.

I think it was a loss we needed to have in terms of that it certainly has bought the boys back down to earth a bit, after 6 wins in a row it would be hard not to get carried away. Manly showed us what a premiership winning team is all about. We've still got 3 weeks to improve before semi's so it all depends on how the players respond to this. The loss in itself wasn't such a terrible thing as a top 4 finish is still all but a certainty.

Last night Manly and Melbourne proved Hasler right that it's the teams that have "been there & done it" who are the real premiership favourites and benchmark. Last night Manly shot off a warning to every other team in the top 8 that they're ready for the finals.

Souths will take a tonne out of this game and come back better for it, down write them off.

P.s. Lol@Manly fans, Josh Morris>> Jamie "I'm too soft to play origin" Lyon.

Morris is a great player, however he is not in Lyon's class yet. Does not have the complete skill set Lyon has at this point. Being too soft or not to play origin does not come into it.

I love how people say souths were crap or "off their game" Souths played as well as Manly allowed them to, That Defence last night would have beaten any team in the Comp!
