What a Doodlehead... You're not the captain... Perhpas check that before you march 10m's for backchat.

Outside that effort by Dugan, this Raiders side have shown absolutely nothing... And it has been like this for weeks. If he isn't under pressure to be sacked as coach, then the management of the club needs to go for letting this continue as long as it has. Sure Campese is out, but they have enough talent out there to easily win games. They try to spin the ball really wide all the time but never want to do the hard yards up the middle. They can't tackle and excluding the backchat thing before, they are poorly disciplined.

A bit of light reading

FULLBACKS

When we think of the NRL’s best fullbacks we invariably think ‘attacking flair’. We marvel at their kick returns and scything breaks, and also their playmaking skills as they slide into the backlines. But obviously the position they play also has a huge defensive focus. They’re literally the last line in defence – the back-up should the front line falter. Rugby league’s goalkeepers, if you will. There are no surprises at the top of this list. The Origin fullbacks are the best in the NRL. Brett Stewart leads the way, with his effective tackle rate at 80.6% just a shade ahead of Billy Slater at 79.5%. Those suggesting Matt Bowen isn’t a defensive fullback (and questioning his mooted selection at the back for Queensland in Origin III) should look at his numbers in third place. He’s effective 78.4% of the time. With Slater out of Origin III, other names bandied include Greg Inglis and Ben Barba – Inglis pips Barba in defence, 74.6% to 73.2%. Perhaps the biggest concern coming out of the fullbacks list lies with the Broncos: Josh Hoffman is the worst of the fullbacks… by a long way. He is effective just 51.2% of the time. In other words, he is ineffective almost half the time.

Brett Stewart (Sea Eagles) 80.6%; Billy Slater (Storm) 79.5%; Matt Bowen (Cowboys) 78.4%; Brett Morris (Dragons) 77.3%; Tim Moltzen (Wests Tigers) 76.3%; Kevin Locke (Warriors) 75%; Greg Inglis (Rabbitohs) 74.6%; Matthew Wright (Sharks) 74.6%; Josh Dugan (Raiders) 74.3%; Ben Barba (Bulldogs) 73.2%; Jarryd Hayne (Eels) 71.4%; Darius Boyd (Knights) 71.3%; Reece Robinson (Raiders) 67.6%; Lachlan Coote (Panthers) 64.9%; William Zillman (Titans) 64.6%; Anthony Minichiello (Roosters) 63.9%; Josh Hoffman (Broncos) 51.2%.

"Effective" tackle rate is a good stat for props, hookers, back rowers, even centres and wide defending halves.

But fullbacks make so few tackles, and in such different and tough circumstances, that talking about a "few %" between any two fullbacks as being of any relevance is silly. It is not unusual for a fullback to make 2 tackles in a night. If the opponents make 6 line breaks rather than 2, which has little to do with the fullback, the fullback might make 3 tackles and 1 miss (shutting down half of all line breaks would be pretty good for a fullback) in the 2nd situation, and 5 tackles and 3 misses in the first situation, an both performances are really similar.

Their kick defusing rate (which will be more statistically valid as it will be based on more trials) would be a better measure of their defensive ability.

f**k me that pass was about 6-7 meters forward. What is the matter with these f**ks? Completely lacking basic skills.

It was disgraceful wasn't it?

"you're not the captain"
"yes I am"
"no you're not, dont talk to me"

f**king wanker. How do they expect respect from the players when they treat them like that?

Reece Robinson 2. Dimitri Pelo 3. Jarrod Croker 4. Blake Ferguson 5. Edrick Lee 6. Josh Dugan 7. Josh McCrone 8. David Shillington (c) 9. Travis Waddell 10. Tom Learoyd-Lahrs 11. Josh Papalii 12. Joel Thompson 13. Shaun Fensom Interchange:
Na, not captain.

Furner fail.

The square up is on.
If the score was 12 all, no way Patterson gets penalised there.
No wonder the players get pissed off with these dickheads.

Not disagreeing, but if someone who doesn't want to watch Manly games impartially wants to claim that B. Stewart can't defend, then what else can someone use to refute the claim?

That wide angle view showed a 3 man over-lap on their compressed defence... And they wonder why their line is getting broken all the time? If they are going to compress they need to be up and in quickly to cut the ball movement.

Agree. And then everyone says oh yeah but the penalty count was 7-6. Funnily enough 6 of those were given when the score was 50-0

Shillington was off, McCrone was captain as far as I'm aware, and the referee shut him down. It was rude and arrogant. Maybe McCrone is not captain with Shillo off? Raiders fans would know better than me.

Suttor starting to give penalties for anything now- he is obviously pissed off now, and we'll see an incorrect play the ball, walking off the mark, or even a scrum penalty soon!

At least the dissent penalties are going both ways.
