Sharkies almost managed one themselves a couple of times there. If you consider that we had a fairly decent side the year we got kicked out, if we'd have merged with the Sharks at that time it would have been a fairly decent lineup. They won the minor premiership in 1999. Add the likes of Brasher, Garlick, O'Neill, Carroll and Wing to that Sharks squad and that would have been a fairly formidable team for the following year.

Illawarra were young, Saints had made plenty of finals and GF's since their last win. That's nothing compared to the rubbish seasons Cronulla and Souths have had for decades.
