But yeah, dirtiest game I've ever been to. Was awesome.

I know you weren't there but try and get your hands on a video of the Newtown-Manly final in 1981. It will make your head spin. As will any game featuring Wests in the late 70s, Norths in the early 80s and on it goes. You haven't seen a thing.

someone please tell gus that he ran behind his own player just like hodges in that origin try that gus whinged about for 10 weeks afterwards

Exactly! Was a clear no try. The only reason people on here are whinging about it is because the commentators have short term memory. You cannot run behind your own player simple as that. Asotasi didn't have to make contact with the player because the shepherd occurred when Symmonds ran behind NOT because the decoy took anyone out.

The rules were changed after the Hodges debacle, there has to be a defender impeded for it to be an obstruction. The"Shepard" rule died a long time ago. Players run "behind" team mates 100 times a game.
So if Asotasi wasn't obstructed from stopping Symonds from scoring then it should have been a try

Manly fans having the nerve to complain about the refs is a good laugh. Manly played dirty as f**k and the refs called them on about half their shit, then to appear unbiased they made up bullshit calls for souths. This was both a moral victory and a regular victory for the bunnies.

I hope you're joking, the officiating tonight was abysmal. Both teams copped some shocking calls, all in the name of evening up the count.

That's what two teams playing rugby league is supposed to look like. I wish they could play more often, what a great game.

I can't believe Bryson Goodwin was a big difference maker haha, he did great at defending Lyon and that right side. I remember last season at Brookvale, Lyon gave Matt King trouble all night. The Stewart Brothers are both looking a little bit rusty, hopefully they can both shake it off as the season goes on. And I'll always appreciate what he's done for the club, but Brent Kite was doing his best Logan Swann impression out there with some of his errors. Also great to see Justin Horo chatting and communicating a lot with Kieran Foran out there, it seems like he could do quite well under Forans playing making abilities.

On again in round 23.

Hope both teams are still going well.
With Melbourne more affected than anyone by Origin it wouldn't surprise me if round 23 is 1st v 2nd and potentially a minor premiership playoff.

At worst both teams will be top 4.

The biggest improvements we've made from last year besides the Teo-Taylor upgrade is getting Goodwin into the team.

He is extremely underrated and a huge improvement from King. Goodwin might not set the world on fire offensively but he doesn't need to given who is inside him. In defense he is outstanding. Makes the right decision almost 100% of the time.

Teams that want to be contenders need players like him. He is one of the biggest reasons we held them to 12 points.

Wait till you play a grand final and he plays horribly out of position and the halfback exploits that fact. He's underrated for a reason.

Feel free to provide reference for this load of shite.

However, Harrigan said that last year a change was made to the interpretation of the rule and that Clark made the correct call.
"The change was that: If in the opinion of the referee or video referee the play had no effect on the scoring of a try then a try will be awarded," Harrigan told the NRL website.
"The reason for this change was that the obstruction rule had become so technical that tries were being disallowed when they shouldn't have been.
"There remain a number of indicators that referees should look for in determining if an obstruction has taken place but the over-riding one they must consider is whether a player actually had an effect on the try being scored.

Best I could find as a reference, they changed it again this year after round 5 to give VR the discretion to determine wether the attacking player had initiated enough contact to impede the defence and assist the try.

Sorry if my reference wasn't exactly technical and word for word but was just a generalisation of the rule change as I understood it...... Next time I will unsure to quote the rules verbatim.
