It's a shame to see Hayne basically wasted for Oz when he could have starred for Fiji. If he can't make our top 17 side we should have let him play for a team that needs him
Like NZ did with James Tamou

Well, the good news is we are done with Ireland now, unfortunately we still have the USA massacre still to come but other than that it should be good games from here on in.

Who are Australia scheduled to face in the semi?

No way looked a 1,000

There was a lot more than that. Thomond Park must not look very good on tv.

Must have the Gold Coast Titans crowd counter over there. Seriously there was not that many people there.

Really? Did you count them all on your tv screen??

I was annoyed with this game. The penalty count ruined it. It ruined any chance Ireland had at keeping the score respectable and it also ruined Australia's chance at showing some great attacking football. Every try we scored was because we were down that end from a penalty. Just annoying really. It was a gift we really didn't need.

Anyway, Australia is really yet to impress. Thurston is clearly the key to the side.

I am not sure how many penalties were given from infringements in the ruck. But the only hope the Irish had of keeping us in check was to slow down the play the ball.

What do you want the ref to do, not give any penalties. That would have made what was really a bad game of football in to a terrible one. Plus its not up to the ref to keep the score respectable. That's for the Irish to do so.

Do you want teams like us and New Zealand to be given a handicap when we play the minnows? Maybe we should play with 10 players or something stupid like that.

We are supposed to have the top 14 league playing nations in the world playing. In reality we have three quality nations plus another 11 extremely poor league playing countries. If you are going to play a World Cup with this sort of a format then you have to accept a number of very one sided games and some very ordinary football games like we saw this morning.

I can tolerate horrible matches, but the fact that it's not even a real Irish team makes it pointless. Last night it was surprisingly enjoyable to watch png have a crack because you could see just how much it meant to them just to be there.

Having a bastardised Irish team just hurts the competition. There's no shame in having an 8 team comp full of genuine teams. Having fake teams like Ireland, Italy and this USA team just wastes everyone's time.

Now I sit back and wait for an uninformed, illogical tirade from Springs because I dared to mention something negatively...

Honestly wish you and Mong would stop posting.

Yes, I want the ref to give less penalties. Pretty much everyone believes the Irish were hard done by in that area. The ref would give penalties for holding down against the Australians but then when Australia went on with our wrestle shit we didn't get penalised once.

I thought Ireland played alright, better than last week, and tried some things in attack and held on well in defence at times. But no team can compete with a 9-1 penalty count against them in one half, especially playing the best team in the world.

Why the f**k would we be given a handicap? Whoever said anything about that? It's about being fair. And Ireland weren't that bad to have that many penalties against them.

It's obviously going to be one sided, the point is teams like Australia don't need any help from the ref. The penalty count stopped both sides from playing their best football and ruined the game.

'fake' teams, right. Just stop posting. No one wants to hear your bullshit.

If the USA are fake with 10 American nationals in their team then Australia is fake the second they play Tamou or Uate.

You make me laugh. You are one of a few people on here who can't or will not accept an opposite point of view.

I thought the Irish played to their best, but they were still beaten badly by a team that didn't get out of first gear. If we had our minds on the job I hate to think what the score would have been.

Again I go back to the ref. What did you want the ref to do, not penalise the Irish for doing anything wrong? What sort of game would we have had then. To try and keep the game close the Irish stretched the rules of the game. The ref wasn't going to allow them to do so and they were penalised accordingly. I wonder what you would be saying if the penalty count went heavily the other way and Australia and won say by only 20 points.

We shouldn't be expecting refs to keep games close.

Phil Beathem has killed Ireland here.....cant believe some of the calls he have let Aussie go with ie flops

I am a real broken record here... but again - the underdogs dont have to just contend with Australia, theyre basically playing against the Ref also.

I just cant believe how the dodgy calls always seem to go with Australia or NZ

It really makes me angry actually..

As has been said above, what could have been a good game was ruined by the Ref. He gave Australia every benefit.. they held down, wrestled, forward passes seemingly every set of 6, he even gave them penalties a few times when they had blatantly lost the ball cold, (but never penalised Ausralia for the same - which they were doing) he gave them one penalty for tackled in the air, when Ireland had one he let go..

I am not asking him to bend the rules, just apply them evenly and NOT using his NRL biased interperetations.

Yep, NRL biased interpretations, when he refs in the ESL.
