IF, and it's a big IF, England meet Australia at OT then the ref will be either Perenara or Alibert if they persist with the neutral refs policy.

Alibert is better than Perenara and Klein.

As for England, did Widdop run over McNamara's dog or something?

Seriously if they are any chance to beat either Australia or New Zealand, they need to fix up their halves. Widdop needs to be given a shot.

At least their forward pack is pretty good to match ours and New Zealand's.

Chase is far more dangerous at 6 than Widdop. Seinfield is the controller which is the role Widdop would play. No space for him.

bingo.....said it since sinfield &chase where put together...kev is the organiser & roger is the razzle dazzle

And I actually think it works pretty well when the forwards get a roll on (first 20 of the convicts game and 40-60 mins of the Fiji game). Widdop no great omission, esp off the back of a hip dislocation. Thought burrow had much better impact.

i really like burrow at dummy half...he delivers quick, accurate ball and is a right handful around a tired ruck...

i was banging on about it before the opening game that behind a huge go forward pack roby & burrow could be devastating....

Widdop just really isn't that good IMO. Not even saying sinfield and chase are that good, but widdop just isn't good enough to kick the door down and force his way into a key position. Playing in the NRL is only worth so much, not much when you're very underwhelming and ordinary in it.

I got the feeling that Burrow seems to lack width with his dummy half play. Good runner, but seemed very uncertain about when the half back needs the ball or when it should go to a forward two passes wide.

lol, that's so wrong it's not funny.

Yeah..that only works if you're winning. QLD wouldn't stick with a consistent spine if they lost every game.

There's also no point in saying 'let's see how he goes without Cronk & Smith' because Cronk himself has never won anything without Smith, Thurston or Slater holding his hand.

You can say Chase is the razzle dazzle but that means nothing when all it does is break down plays and kills overlaps. He killed the play so many times yesterday by holding it, stepping around and going back the other way before throwing a pointless flick pass. As I've said, reminds me of Benji, and not in good form.

Saying 'Sinfield is the controller so no room for Widdop' is just as dumb, because what is Cronk if not a controller? Should Widdop not be in the Storm side then? The structure England play with suits having Widdop on the left and Sinfield right perfectly. It's maddening why McNamara didn't even give it one chance in three games.

Yep. If Burrow is on the bench I'd only have him on for 15-20 minutes. Roby is too good to leave off for longer than that.

Doesn't really discredit the argument. There are a lot of average players having their averageness camouflaged by melbourne. Widdop is one and Cronk is another.
At rep level cronk still has smith holding his hand, and gains thurston, so he continues to be camouflaged. Widdop gets thrown out into the wilderness and would be exposed for the ordinary player he is. It's a shame the same couldn't happen to cronk. I wish paramatta or someone bought cronk thinking it would save their team, the ensuing season would be hilarious.

Fiji very hard done by with sh1t calls from ref all game. England were coming off defensive line way too early n not allowing Fiji to make any yards. On other hand, Fiji were waiting for ball to clear ruck like ur supposed to. England were prob the better side for 80 mins but f**k it makes it hard for Fiji when they getting the arse end of the deal from ref. would have been a lot more interesting to see it reffed evenly.

Did I mention Cummins had a shocker?!!!

So everyone in the team is average except for Smith & Slater? What are you on? Cronk and Widdop are average yet won the comp, including setting up all Storm's tries?

That only works if the spine is consistently good, which Englands is not (at least the halves anyway)

NSW tried the approach this year (and next it seems) and look how that turned out. Sticking with the same spine is great but only if you pick the best players in the first place
