Sutton would be a good attacking asset but I worry he is too much of a grabber in defence, and too slow laterally. He is probably still the best defensive five eight though, but there are ways to exploit him, Mullen would be close.

Adam Reynolds seems to play well at City level, but I fear he just does things too slow in general. I can picture him being caught with the ball in hand constantly like he was Pearce. But he would probably give a great kicking game. Adam Reynolds will be a good option as he gets older

Mullen should just come in directly for Josh Reynolds. Try not to change too much, he is probably the most well rounded half that NSW has

Putting aside all the gloating, whinging, deifying and blaming that will happen in the next few weeks, I just have to step back and marvel at Rugby League and State of Origin.

It never fails to impress, my side lost last night, and I cannot with any fibre of my being say that the game wasn't anything but spectacular.

I went to pub in Melbourne, which was full by the way, with my wife (A Victorian), my mate (A victorian) and his girlfriend (a Saffa) and they were blown away by the spectacle and the game.

I just amazed how this game, and this event, continues to get better and better.

Well put. Year after year it delivers. Breathtaking drama, still in shock Qld didn't score on that last play.

Sutton and Mullen sound nice to me
Some how I dont think he will go that way. He's got this obsession with picking halves from the same clubs! I think if Maloney and Pearce have even half decent games over the next couple of weeks they'll be back in the team!

You know what..I tend to agree with you about Sutton's defence...for a guy who is 103kg and is built like a back rower..he does tend to miss a few crucial tackles from time to time but hes been better in recent years!

Also there is a school of thought amongst alot of South Sydney fans that Adam Reynolds is only good when hes got John Sutton playing out side him at five-eight! Sutton tends to make Reynolds look better than what he is...whenever Reynolds runs out of options in attack he simply passes to Sutton or allows Sutton to drift into first receiver! I also feel that Sutton is the talker and the organiser out of the two. What Adam Reynolds is good at is finding space with his kicks and building pressure through earning goal line drop outs. His other great strength is putting those big forwards in space..but I think sometimes he's too scripted/organised in his play and cant improvise. I felt that after the game against the sharks on monday night..where he looked like he was putting on set play after set play rather than analyzing the situation at hand!

What I would do is if Josh Morris is out injured for game 2...an idea would be to switch Jennings over and bring in Sutton, Reynolds and Dylan Walker (who is in great form at the moment and was brilliant in city-country) and you've virtually got South Sydney's left hand side attack which has scored a ridiculous percentage of South Sydney's tries. Just an idea.

Given all that I'd like to see
Hayne, Tupou, Jennings, Idris/Morris, Morris/Hopoate, Mullen, Hodkinson, Woods, Farah, Tamou, Bird, Lewis, Gallen, Fifita, Sims, Scott, Merrin

We missed Fifita. Got stomped in the second half up front and need a 4th prop. I think that is a much better side.

The Hayne break near our line when he ran for 40 meters....I just knew the refs where going to try to f**k us over when N.S.W. didn't get that penalty when Jennings was screaming up in support as he was blatantly held back.

Of all the reffing f**k-ups of the night, that one was the most obvious.

And I'll admit I was wrong about Lewis.Although he didn't play a full game,he played well enough to warrant his selection for game 2.

Tupou HAS to rectify his ball catching skills....period.

So I wasn't the only one who saw that.
I thought I must have been hallucinating since no one else has mentioned it.

I thought the refereeing decisions even themselves out over the course of the game. Remember Queensland should have got a penalty when jarryd hayne went up for a bomb just to get in Billy Slater's way and that ended up costing QLD 2 points and im probably the only person who thought Johnathon Thurston had a hand of Hayne while his ball carrying arm hit the ground!

Hayne did nothing wrong in that incident. He jumped early, but he didn't touch slater or the ball.

And the try, hayne never stopped his forward momentum and thurston fell off the tackle.

Tate is a whinger...saying that he thought he was going to be like McKinnon was a bit dramatic IMO.

Totally agree. With that type of attitude, the guy should just hang up his boots and walk away from the game. If you have a pre-existing condition that requires a neck brace, then you only have yourself to blame if you end up disabled in what is one of the most high impact physical sports in the world.

Tate could render himself a paraplegic (or worse) by going into a tackle the wrong way. Others, notably Andrew Johns, retired before they had the chance to further complicate a injury, and with good reason.

After you retire Tate, just make sure you make a sizable donation to the Steve Price Chin Foundation.

Hayne went up without the intention of making a serious contest for the ball..his eyes werent even on the ball..it was a penalty
