I know and it's ridiculous, how hard is it to play the ball properly, it's a fundamental of rugby league and the refs have neglected it and allowed players to get away with it so much that they just accept it, same with playing the ball on the mark and not a few steps forward.

You should know about stepping off the mark. The Broncos are masters at it. Especially Justin Hodges.
