I know it's only early days with this but if the league don't find a way to explain it and make it clear to everyone then it's a game killer.
Poor discipline?
I wonder if many other teams in the coming up trial games will have one team pinged more than the other as a form of practise thing for the refs. It was just so amazing to see us pinged so much and overall took its toll against us. I think we got pinged more than the Sharks in the first trial as well. If we are genuinely making this mistake then our coaching staff better start looking at ways to reduce this indiscretion immediately.Sometimes refs go overboard.
So parra didn't do it?
Of course they did.
The camera was focused on the play,.couldn't see the ref many times rule 6 again .
Problem I had watching is that I had no idea on why they made the calls most the time. I heard a call for hand on the ball once, and assume a few were slowing the play the ball, but as a spectator I didn’t see much difference between the sides... maybe decent commentators and better filing/production will help?
as long as the team knows why and they can address it, then this is what trials are for.
I’d rather us just work on our discipline. The rule has a lot of rugby about it. The whistle is blown but no one knows really why. Thought this last season too.
It's good if it opens the game up, but if it's unbalanced, like in this trial, it can destroy a game too.
We certainly defended like we were playing touch last yearTo me six again is a bullshit rule. But who am I to say when it seems accepted by those in charge of NRL, the coaches and even Freddie and Gus.
It's taken the game away from its roots and moved it closer to Touch
I'd say that Gentle has been coaching our players to slow down in the tackle. I'm sure that they will realise that this wont't work und the current rules. I would rather see all players being coached more on tackling techniqueI know it's only early days with this but if the league don't find a way to explain it and make it clear to everyone then it's a game killer.
Says even more that it’s a team discipline thing rather than bias against us..FWIW, there were 3 different refs during yesterday's trial that had about 25 mins each...
This is beside the point; it's about the rule and not just Saints games. No one knows why the whistle is blown, whether for or against your own team, which used to be the common complaint about rugby.I’d rather us just work on our discipline.
If we’re a well coached side we should be able to work on defending without giving away set restarts.
You hit the nail on the head; because play resumes so quickly, there's no scrutiny. And that's my point. It's purpose is to speed the game up which it will so there's little time to give the reason for the repeat set. It will come into genuine scrutiny when it seems to favour one side over the other. It can significantly change a game.
I guess we'll see how much noise it generates over the coming weeks. I think it will.
