I hope Pearce is back, a bloke coming off a hamstring in a final...and Pearce is limited. Fantastic in defence but his kicking game is very inconsistent. Hastings' short kicking game is elite, you win finals off repeat sets, pressure, etc.

From what I hear the odds of Pearce playing again this year are very slim. Its a 6-7 week injury that they are desperately trying to get repaired in 4.

I think if Hastings and Pearce were to have a kicking comp at training Pearce would be more accurate in all forms, but Hastings biggest advantage is he actually looks up before he kicks to see where the fullback and defence are. Thats why his short kicking appears better because he actually checks where to aim before putting boot to ball.

Pearce on the other hand premeditates just about every action he takes without taking the defence into account, instead having faith that the lead up plays to the last have done their job and sucked the defence into the position required for the play he is about to put on to work. When it comes off he looks a world beater, but when it doesn't he looks a fool

Well they ruined the 2014 finals series by getting the 3 best teams on one side of the draw and total crap on the other side.

They were not better than the team that beat them in Week 1, nor were they better than the team who beat them in Week 3, and they were extremely fortunate to get away with a win in Week 2 after conceding 30 unanswered points. So I think its safe to say the Roosters were not one of the three best teams in the finals last year.

The Cowboys also conceded 30 unanswered points, and finished 5th in the season proper. So its a long stretch to call them one of the best three teams in the finals.

The best three teams in the finals last year were (in order) Souths, Canterbury, and Penrith.

Seriously bro everyone knew the premiers we're going to come from that one side of the draw. Cows or easts would have beaten dogs or panthers in the GF just as easily as souths did.

You say you can't call the cows one of the best 3 as they finished 5th yet have the dogs as second best who finished 7th

Well said I completely agree.

Rooters will rest cordner and guerra

Where'd you hear this????

In the betting yesterday Roosters were $1.32 and Souths $3.45.

As of now it's changed quite a bit, it's Roosters $1.51 and Souths $2.62.

So there's late money on Souths.

If Cordner and Guerra are out then Souths now actually have some hope in making it a close match.

The Cows didn't beat Penrith in Round 23 on a windy and wet Monday night. It was their only loss in 9 rounds plus a semi final. As it turned out this match was a play off for 4th place, and it was a hugely critical match even at the time. Easts also didn't beat Penrith in week 1 of the finals. Souths were the best team, there is no doubt about that, but next best were the other team that won 3 finals against extremely well performed opposition. Next after that was between Penrith, Easts and NQ. Easts beat NQ, Penrith beat Easts (who lost 2 games whereas Penrith only lost one), and the Cows lost the playoff for 4th, so there you go. It's clear who were the three best performed teams of last year's finals.

Citing hypothetical results of matches that did not happen doesn't amount to much of an argument.

Just what I'm hearing around the traps

Roosters have no reason to play a full strength team

Roosters are insane if they play their best side. Give RTS a rest, Guerra, Cordner, and possibly a couple of their props.

Vic is a Souths hater!

He very very very rarely gives Souths credit.

Who beat who doesn't mean shit. The Tigers beat both Canterbury and souths in 2014, doesn't mean we were better than them.

Everybody knew as soon as week 1 of the semis finished where the Premiers were coming from. The dogs/panthers prelim was the lowest quality grand final qualifier I have seen in my life.

Anyways back on topic

Has this match become a bit of a non event? With the storm winning last night aren't easts guaranteed first and souths 7th (unless there's some upsets on Sunday)?

Surely both teams will rest players.

Souths can come 6th if Cronulla lose
