Lots of people have Canberra in their 8, I know I do. Wouldn't call penrith a dark horse, if they do have a great season like in 2013 it would be more a shock than a dark horse story.

2013, thats when we came 10th, one win outside the eight. I think we can do a little better than that, but probably not as good as 2014. As for this match, who knows, probably the home side. We are quite rusty and without our captain.

I don't even have an eight. Most of the eights I've seen are just last year's eight with the writer's team included. I can admit I haven't really got a clue how this season is going to pan out.

You know fans are dicks when they get joy out of a high shot hurting a player. Although that doesn't mean the player who did it deserves one back. I don't think it was intentional.

Intentional gets you 12 weeks, a la Travis Burns. It was graded as careless and the offender got a week off. Some benefit of the doubt involved here. If he does it again he can expect much stronger action. Illegally taking out opposition playmakers is not a good practice for the game.

Lmao it was at worst a fraction high because soward was falling. Ill take a borderline high shot in stopping a try every day of the week.

A fraction high?

Not intentionally high. But it most definitely is a high shot (shoulder meets head) that Raiders fans are celebrating as a great tackle despite being illegal and hurting a player.

I'm not dirty on Wighton for that shot. It was an accident. I do think it's ridiculous that they didn't penalise it though and ruled it as a lost ball due to lack of video evidence. But that same evidence got him a suspension.

but that's not Wighton or the Raiders fault. It's just another case of the NRL and referees being inconsistent and getting shit horribly wrong. Happwns nearly every weekend.

If soward was upright where wighton lined him up it would have been fine. I actually agree it should have been a penalty but there isnt a lot in it. I dont like to see any player injured but wighton going at the man as hard as he can is his job.

Should have been the other way around.

Penalty on the field, no suspension.

Pretty sure after watching the replay excessively, Wighton hit Sowie's shoulder first and then with Sowie falling and Wighton raising his shoulder, made contact with poor wittle Sowie's head which should have been a penalty to the Panthers. Wighton getting suspended was a reaction from the NRL to the Video Ref not making the right decision at the time.

Not sure what Soward was thinking just running straight into Wighton without stepping or threatening to kick. Silly play by him. Panther's played better without him anyway.

If Wallace and Soward are as useless as they were last year, i'd say raiders by 10, after leading by a lot more and clocking off.

BJ Leilua MOM and looking a different player (well for the first bit of the season until he gets comfy again)

It was a high tackle. You get suspended for them. It doesn't matter if players are falling, you cannot attack the head. Wighton seems like a decent sort of a player. I hope he realises this.

It doesn't matter what Soward was thinking. You are not allowed to attack the head. If you do you will get suspended, as he found out.

If Wallace and Soward are as useless as they were last year, i'd say raiders by 10,

Soward didn't have much of a season after what he achieved in 2014. He seemed to be carrying injuries all year and a number of nasty high shots, including the one under discussion here, didn't help matters. Wallace didn't play many games last year, and suffered a serious knee injury, following a similar injury on the other knee the year before. I'm not sure he will be our 7 very far into the season, but if he can remain healthy, who knows? He's a very strong defender in the midfield. I can see him starting a lot of games on the bench for us this year, Griffin has used him thus before.

1. Im sure if you look at the ratio of high tackles to suspensions you'll see most are just careless and dont warrant a suspension. On field penalty is normally sufficient.

2. Anyone who runs straight at a defender is going to get hurt, it was only fractionally high and an accident but even if he got him around the ribs, Sowie would be on the ground calling for his mumma

3. Dont blame a high shot half way through the second last game of the year on Sowie's demise. He'll be even worse this year

Wighton was clearly not attacking the head. He was trying to obliterate soward with the biggest hit that he could muster but a child who isnt a butt hurt penrith fan could see if soward was not falling wighton would have hit him legally around the chest where he was clearly aiming.

Oh ffs he jumped into it on a shorter man than him, on what planet is that "clearly aiming for the chest?" that is such a bias view of it.

It was a clear high shot worthy of a penalty and nothing else. He got suspended because the refs f**ked up on the field and let it go.
