18th club, whose next?

Is this an Expansion thread or a sodium mine with the levels of saltiness being thrown about here??

It seems that on here the Centy Coasts/Red Black and Whites are more than stoked to have a chance at supporting a club on the opposite side of the continent but some “potential” Perth fans are gonna nit pick every detail because it doesn’t fit their vision from 20 years ago. And that’s after it seems all the excessive and unnecessary demands have been taken away from what the Bears are asking.

I used to think Donkeys constant trolling of Perth was excessive and unnecessary, but reading the last few days on here…….. f@$k me….

Be happy Perth is finally being talked of as a serious option.
Can you know see why I am against Perth?

I wouldn't have a problem with Perth if its power brokers and fans weren't arrogant whiny bitches with an entitlement complex. Unfortunately, the whining and entitlement isn't limited to their small rugby league community. I've seen Western Australians carry on like galahs in fumbleball and cricket because they think the world should revolve around Perth.

Back in 2020 the Perth media chucked a massive tantrum because the Gabba was chosen to host the GF. They called it an old dilapidated dump and demanded it be played at Perth Stadium. Ironically, the game couldn't be played in Perth due to the WA Premier enforcing the harshest border security protocols in the country. If they had have been reasonable with their border restrictions then they would have got the GF.

When the Brisbane Heat played the Perth Scorchers at Perth Stadium in a BBL final a couple of seasons ago the Perth media mocked them for losing their Test players to the Australia vs India series that was being played. All they ever do in Perth is whinge.

On the field? Nope. How can they but off the field which I was referring too - heaps! They have been building with portfolio with business investments/assets for good growth. So there is a lot in common. Especially with Panthers Group.

I’ve explained all this already though - boring to go through it again I’m sure as you don’t strike me as a type who wants to read about business and financial mumbo jumbo.

Could count in one hand the actual boomers at magic round. Everyone else looked under 35/40.

Off the field the overarching business that owns them is flying - all been explained already last week. All naturally side stepped. None of the turnips care about the actual business side that goes into running a club. Why would they be? It’s all magic dust and wish foundations.

According to Rock&Sock Connection a 68 year old Peter Cumins (proper boomer) is the answer to Perth stand alone bid. His claim to fame is Cash Converters - a company that has fluctuated all over the shop since they are battling against online trade markets like market share. Soon his main bread basket will go the way of physical media and video rental stores - as second hand markets cuts out the middle man. His company has had decreasing returns of 8.2% a year for the last 5 years and 6.7% declining dividends for the last decade.

Now to the turnips here that means nothing - but to business people like PVL and the games share holders that means a lot. It means handouts and propping will be needed in few years should they go standalone or these non rugby league people decide they don’t like the game anymore and to their own state government in W.A. it means more tax payer dollars spent on an exercise.

Bears bring their own resources - the big clubs already know this so their bottom lines are fine. Nick Politis is a big advocate to bring back the Bears in Perth for this reason.

PVL also knows the importance of a new club bringing this business model and resources to the table hence he says its sensible because financially the NRL will need to spend much less on the Bears in Perth. WA government are for the idea because it means they also need to spend considerably less money on it.

Less money that these fat cats need to spend means more money for them in their pocket. More money for them means that bid is more likely to get in. Fox and 9 also see this and Dolphins success has them smiling ear to ear all the way to the bank.

It’s simple business. Simple finance. Simple politics. Genuinely am astounded how a few in here just don’t get it.
We don’t like pokies in WA

We get it. The bears are the biggest failure in rugby league history.

Obviously when it gets put to a club vote all the nsw clubs will prefer bears because that brand will bring them higher crowds to their grounds

all clubs will prefer the bears because tv wants that brand back

Without the bears brand a Perth team would be lucky to break 10k for many Sydney games

The ARLC via VLandys has already said that perth isn't dependent on the bears. Has the broadcasters said they want the bears? It was claimed here they wanted Brisbane . Who's the other stake holders?

If the Perth bid comes up with the money then that's it. Done deal.

Of course he said that. He needs those on the ground floor to decide to partner with the Bears. The point I took from all the interviews is that WA Govt will be hands on with the side.

If that is done. The Bears will get in, TV will want the viewers for the Perth East coast games.

The league will want the pathways.

What the non Bears bid can do is find a partner to do that as part of the Business case
