Again youre missing the point, its a team for the region

What region? Pacific Island/PNG? Again, Cairns won’t support a Pacific Island side simply because it is not representing them. That’s nothing against Cairns or the Pacific Islands but it is what it is.

Think of it this way, say there’s no team from Penrith and they make a Brisbane team play their home games at Penrith. How many people from Penrith would watch them?

it seems so preposterous that I can only think Vlandys is paying lip service to the govt in mentioning it.
I thought the same thing. Ironic for you though that his comments on the radio today about expansion in 2025/27, shows that if there is anyone with the kahoonas (I think you called them) to do rapid expansion, V`landy`s is our man.
Interesting as well, while never outright in admitting it, there seems to an implicit admission now that the broadcast deal was undersold.

And sometimes you have to consolidate what you have before taking a risk. The game was in a perilous state post super league war.

Melbourne are now secure.
The Queensland heartland shored up.

Now its time to look further afield.
He doesn’t understand the super league war

it’s before his time

Look at how many people supported the warriors at Redcliffe and Gosford, there’s your answer!

He already admitted that when he came out with his ‘tricks up his sleeve’ and ‘ go to market before 2028’ comments.

they are now playing revenue catch up and the pressures on which is only good news for anyone whose an expansionist.

I was going to mention the Gosford thing but meh. If it’s going to happen then they should play in NZ.
Auckland would be the only viable location, but warriors couldn’t cope with it. If govt is putting up all the expenses forever then you could base it in Wellington and accept they wouldn’t have much revenue and I suppose that still leaves Christchurch for a genuine nz2 club in the future?
Still feels like a Vlandys special “look at us“ interview though tbh.

Maybe. I think the NZ option makes them also more attractive for TV which can help with greater TV revenue.

Does it really tick the govt box though for political support if it’s not really a png club? A club based in wellington picking up the odd png player isn’t really delivering much politically in our png relationship.

That is true. It would have to be a Pacific Island team rather than strictly a PNG team in any case.
Practically how? PI and png seem very different to try and weld together in one club to represent.
6 games in Port Moresby 6 in NZ?
What branding could you use to represent multiple nations/cultures?
as an islander club is it going to only appeal to a % of an already small city in Wellington?

how’s the union PI club travelling?

Aust govt won't pay for a team that they cant control, i guarantee it won't be in NZ...
The best case scenario is that it plays in PNG only and fifo to a few other locations, and thats only if its a PI merge team, which is even harder...
If it was an only PI team then yeah Nz2, but its not

It could be, but jesus PNG to Fiji is a vast distance
Not sure its nessesary to be a P.I and a P.N.G team, just do one or the other
Again cairns is the closest town to P.N.G, if the govt are to back it, they'll want it on aus soil... fifo to png, it would be too hard to control on foreign soil especially since the political climate and crime rate there... i hope andrew hill has this all sorted out
