If the NRL approached the WA government with the incentive of a Perth team that'll bring a few million $$$ into their economy each year, would the government actually fund it? I don't keep up with any politics nationwide but am curious to know if the WA government is open to the idea of it all.
I'm confident they would, my concern is the NRL is not serious about perth and has made no such demands or guarantees. We have had multi billion $ surplusses last couple of years so theres plenty of Govt money floating around to upgrade HBF and build the NRLWA and a new club a CofE and HQ at perry Lakes alongside the other sports centres there. Thats what the NRL should be demanding in return for a Perth license.

I expect two teams will be announced next year for staggered entry. Png first and Perth a year or two later

it’s a shame the cba dragged out so long or it would’ve been announced this year

nz2 would ideally be team 20 and the nrl should then take a breather for five years

I think Perth HAS to come before any other team. South East Queensland does not need another team yet(If at all). PNG is a wildcard play, and if it pays off great, but I wouldn't take the risk with them first. NZ2 definitely should be in the conversation. WA is the next market we as a code need to invest in. We should get Perth in, then pump some of the money from the new TV deal in 2027 into grassroots and country rl for the next few years after before introducing teams 19 & 20. Reason being so that we can actually invest in the talent pool here in Aus and NZ first before it continues to slowly die off.

Four new teams in no particular order:

New Zealand Orcas - 6 home games in Wellington, 6 home games in Christchurch, 2 away games in Wellington, 2 away games in Christchurch (So an 8/8 split between cities).

How does that work? I don’t see opposing teams giving up their home games to play at the opposition’s home ground.
If they were in Dunedin/Napier/Palmerston North maybe but it’s still not something you could guarantee as it’s up to the other clubs.

a north and south divide over the waitemata harbour with a team based in the north shore playing out of the north harbour stadium.
You’re picking the wrong harbour for the geographical divide if it’s for a league team.
if you were going to do that it’d be Auckland vs South Auckland (south and east of the Manukau harbour) as that would represent a more even split in both population and culture, with south Auckland being far more working class and Polynesian compared to the north/central areas.

Ok, they definitely won't fill squads!!
Of course nobody's saying that.
And they definitely aren't going to be all ex college football players!!
Nobody's saying that either..

But where do you actually want to put your money?
0 ?
I don't know what's possible but if you think 0 then I'll take that bet all day long!
Maybe during college they get a tap on the shoulder like you won't make NFL but you might be more suited to this game.. the one we're watching right now...
0 ? Good luck.

All answers lead to perfh, if you cant recruit from the pacific Islands, or Png, or USAs college nfl discards..
Then PR has the problem solved... recruit from Perth!!! ..Where every team put together gets smashed by 50-60.... TLDR is the answer is ALWAYS perfh

If it's gambling revenue V'landys is after then why isn't he selling the game to Hong Kong, Singapore and Macau?

An American footballer played a game for Newcastle over 20 years ago. He was so useless that Warren Ryan dropped him after the match. He never played again.

So before they “slashed” grassroots funding where’s the evidence that was was producing so many nrl players ?
