THE NSW/ACT AFL has been accused of exaggerating its registered players in the Leichhardt municipality, calling into the question the sporting body's numbers across Sydney.www.smh.com.au
Afl don’t seem to know what either is
“The local AFL body, which in its original submission to the council claimed to have 1644 registered players, then reduced that figure to 238.
''It is really disturbing that a professional sporting body would use false statistics to gain access to junior sports grounds,'' said Leichhardt councillor Darcy Byrne, who has campaigned to keep the AFL off Birchgrove Oval. '
..anybody who was ever a childA school getting free footy's
Ex player running a week's compulsory school sport
Should be counted as a junior
..anybody who was ever a child
Since all sports went to 'participation rates' numbers are all rubbery, nearly as much as memberships lolI think kids are fine. Provided they hit say 10 weeks, Those that register and don't play shouldn't count.
That is why those using participation numbers are idiots

Should be registered players with a club for all sports. Then particaption numbers for casual/ltd exposure, schools programs.
Same as memberships should be full memberships, part memberships and non ticketed memberships to show a more useful data set.
trollity troll trollWorst made up numbers are league figures from western Australia
Im not sure thats the reason lol. Lack of investment, better run other jnr sports, kids/parents getting softer, lack of school programs etc are more likely why the drop off in grassroots numbers.I believe Rugby League is undertaking a shift in players to the downside in quantity due to quality..
Bigger ,faster , more skilful players are discouraging mediocre players.
And the product is improving as a result! By having a smaller higher quality player numbers, not only is it better for the players because they are testing themselves against better opponents and playing with better players but it makes it easier to identify good players- not only because you have less players to look through but they are easier to identify because they have decent opposition.
At this point it appears that whether or not it rises or fall, the outcomes are getting better results.
There's spots for 300 or so full time professional players, if we're focused on making sure the best talent get to the end goal ( which appears to be the case) then player numbers don't need to be high.

AFL participation continues to boom in Queensland
Aussie Rules in Queensland continues to soar to new heights, with the all-time community football participation record surpassed. More than 68,000 people are now registered to play Australia’s game in the sunshine state.www.goldcoastfc.com.au
Absolutely
Real figure is probably 5kOnly 20-30k are registers players. The rest are tied up in AusKick, Superstars and other introduction programs.
Their "junior" competitions prohibit tackling and have boys and girls competing against one another.Real figure is probably 5k
trollity troll trollOver 40k participants but only 4k registered
You're just disagreeing for the sake of it. We know for a fact many kids are being discouraged due to the prominence of Tongan and Samoan kids ( bigger, faster and stronger) , it been well documented ( at least on the East coast where we have rl ..)Im not sure thats the reason lol. The development of talent improvement is more casue than effect, less milk means the cream becomes much thinner and has to be developed more.
Reality is most people who play Rl will never be close to good enough to play professionally. That doesnt invalidate the playing of RL by the majority.

You use "lol's" for well known facts.
Do you even know what lol stands for?
I wonder.
