Spoke to Justin Olam on Sunday at the Storm v Knights game, he is dead set against a PNG NRL team, he just thinks it is a really bad idea. Just says that the local economy is not ready for it, locals can’t afford it, stupid if it is in Cairns.
Nice guy.
Nice photo, but he should be ashamed for saying that, for all the good it can do, and the fact the govts are tipping in, it should be a guiding light, besides no one expects him to drop the contract he is on to captain the side, he left the hunters in 2016, had he stayed he could have won that qcup comp with them, but he chased money, now he is bad mouthing any chance this bid25 has, its not a good look

My reasoning isn't coz they aren't ready for it, the cowboys are a great example of how just being there in the competition breeds awareness, they didn't make a GF till 2005, and didn't win won till 2015, now they are a powerhouse in qld and revered
It will take 20 years for sustainable success for any club, hell titans and warriors are still without a trophy... some clubs dont get there for 40 years, souths had a long term, parra is current on the longest drought, cronulla turned the porch light off after 50 years... we gotta start now, give the club time, no one should be expecting a new expansion team to rival Penrith or Melbourne now, hell my team came in '67 didn't make a gf till 1990, olam is living in the now, expansion is about planning for the future

Thank god you`re nowhere near running the game, PNG won`t happen , sanity and wise heads will prevail, in the meantime it just makes good copy.
BTW Justin Olam is allowed to have an opinion, he is far better placed than some angry keyboard worrier to do so. And winning premierships and sustainability are two completely different things.

You seem to be confusing on field success with off field viability. Olam is clearly talking about how the f**k the Hunters are going to get any financial support from their fans, not whether they will win a premiership in the next 15 years.

He was very honest, spoke about how he grew up, the economy, even spoke about the tribes over there.
Olam isn’t against it but he just can’t see it happening and if it doesthere is a lot of work to do, a lot of work.
I asked him about outside players signing, he said that they PNG would have to pay players from Australia massive overs to play over there.
Big Nelson and Dean Leremia then came over and they were hassling him being captain/coach, Olam laughed and said he’d be long retired by then bro.

Read your post again, you stated that he was deadset against it, so which is it!, hence why i said why ive said,
If your gonna be a mouthpiece for an NRL player, maybe make sure you quote him properly, coz if ths gets a chance of some deadshit journo reads this LU thread by chance (some stalkers do) theyll take it out of context... as far as paying massive overs, its the reason they trying to base the team in cairns ffs

How do you measure success, i guess canberra is not worthy of a licence then since they were a basketcase off the field, until recently.. maybe no one would have given them a licence had they not been so close to the other NSWRL clubs..
Are you reading into what Chinese whispers someone else quoted him on, thats calked a guessing game... as far as fan support, you honestly think these govts are chipping in to have the png locals pay the equivalent of what we pay to see a commbank game ffs, i wouldn't be suprised if the game gates stay are open for the first season

V'landys couldn't give two shits about PNG.

The only people that support it are some Bogan from Sydney and and Incel from Logan.
