Read your post again, you stated that he was deadset against it, so which is it!, hence why i said why ive said,
If your gonna be a mouthpiece for an NRL player, maybe make sure you quote him properly, coz if ths gets a chance of some deadshit journo reads this LU thread by chance (some stalkers do) theyll take it out of context... as far as paying massive overs, its the reason they trying to base the team in cairns ffs
We’d had a few beers, Olam wasn’t in favour of it for many various reasons, but he said if it happens it happens and he’d even help them out, he has family over there etc.

He’s never said he’s against a png side. Just that it would be very difficult and take many years, and should start with getting the grassroots sorted out.

Bears held their AGM last night, I didn’t attend as I had a family dinner but they discussed the bid, what’s happening and where they are at.
Apparently they are focussed on two areas, NZ2 and Perth, they are waiting for the NRL to point them in which direction they want them to go.
The Bears have dropped their non negotiables down to two
1).Colours red and black
2).Bears logo
As for games at North Sydney Oval they would settle for one if they could get that.
If I hear anything else I will post it but it sounds like the NRL will decide where the location will be and then invite the Bears to that area.
All of the above is what I have said would happen all along, it is all about negotiation.
When the Bears first went to Perth during Origin a few years ago they virtually got thrown out with their arrogant attitudes and proposals, things have now been mended.
There have never been any talks with PNG.

Okay so applying the laws of logic (lol) if PNG is a dead cert than the next three teams are PNG, Perth and NZ2. If the Bears are focussing on these two areas and making these concessions then they must have been given a reason to do so. I’d go Perth first and then the other two in 3-5 years after that.

So then there non-negotiables are at least 3.

Some form of ownership or board presence would make it 4.

I`m not quite sure how you apply the "laws of logic" to Centy Coast`s post and come up with "PNG is a dead cert". PNG isn`t even mentioned in that post.
Good to see the Bears realising their place in all of this now though, truth is, if Perth and NZ2 can come up with the finance they probably have very little need for the Bears any way, pathways perhaps.

I don’t want PNG to be a dead cert. I’m just going by all the comments by PVL and Albo.

Albo political future is in serious doubt.

PNG is a political PR disaster and by no means close to reality.

An exclusive club that benefits only 30 NRL players isn't an easy sell politically in 2024, when people are struggling to pay there mortgage.

Agreed. I was originally optimistic about it but not any more. The dark realities have set in.

Wrong png will not be enough of a carrot for the 19th team to up the broadcaster deal once again, if anything making it 18th is perfect, coz itll just be evening the no.of teams and adding the one game, which they'll pay for, the 19th has to be a team the broadcasters really want, the bears fits that bill maybe even the Brisbane tigers, and sky sports woll want nz2

Its perth or another city like Adelaide or Melbourne2,
The bears are wanted by both the ARLC and broadcasters, its really now just about picking one

To tell you the truth the NRL probably won’t even consider either NZ2 or Perth unless the Bears are involved with one of them, which one is the question ?, just a feeling I’ve got and been given when you look at the comments over the lasts few months.
