Using the Jets brand would probably get non-binary hipsters in the inner-west to follow the Perth NRL team as it would be an extensioon of the Newtown brand, a cool story of an inner-city working class club that ventured far west to conquer a new land.
Can they count each gender as a fan

No rl administration in 100+ years has failed to deliver an agreement by now. Whose fault is that I wonder?

not to mention Tonga has agreed a tour of England so clearly players are not the hold up.
Tonga should be playing here against Samoa

England just had a World Cup we don’t need to keep supporting such a poorly performing league

England should play France or wales and stop
Relying on nrl talent to fill the void in their game

which has nothing to do with the conversation lol

if tonga can confirm a tour then what’s holding up the arlc confirming the end of season tournament? Pathetic it’s only 3 months away and still we don’t know what’s happening.

On some level everybody shares some of the blame in situations like this, but it's pretty clear that the RLPA have been the ones being difficult in this case...

Their demands are totally unrealistic and they refuse to compromise, it's made any sort of serious negotiation basically impossible. It's actually been funny at points where they've demanded that the NRL follow international standards when it suits them but not when things like transfer windows are brought up.

That would seem exactly just about how much time you put thinking into it. Your brilliant idea would not only make Origin a second-rate spectacle but probably Pacific Tests as well. As is we can have the best of both worlds, as long as we have a dedicated end-of-year representative window.
Why would that make Origin a second rate spectacle?

Strange stance to take? Surely having a strong and viable SL is very valuable to the NRL?

I mean, why do you class it as supporting the RFL? It’s the international game for heaven sake. Lose England, the international game irreparably shrinks to the South Pacific only.

Exactly. Great point

I have seen him death ride the ESL before, as if it's some huge threat to the NRL... its odd.

England can’t develop France to a good standard

their game is insular yet if you go on their forums it’s Aussies holding the int game back

the last World Cup in England had some awful crowds in the heartland (hull Leeds and Warrington )

I was looking forward to Tonga vs samoa

I find watching England boring tbh it’s like a charity having to watch them

the future of rugby league will be driven by Australia and nz. England is largely irrelevant. The best they can do is not die off completely and ride the wave created by the nrl

Have the RFL ever taken responsibility for developing France? Wales, Scotland, Ireland? There is a good argument to say they should, but they haven’t, so you can’t really hold the British to account for that.

Not as if the NRL has done anything of relevance to develop Tonga, Fiji or Samoa, so it seems a bit of an illogical argument you are making.

True, crowds were aweful at some RLWC matches last year and the organisers are predominantly responsible for that. There were equally as many in Aus 5 yrs earlier. Again, I don’t think Australia has anything to crow about over England in this subject.

As the NRL looks to expand and expand again, it will need as many pathways to the NRL as possible. Nursing the second largest professional RL pathway in the world is of course of major importance to the NRL.

If anything, the NRL should have an eye on a controlling merger with the RFL and FFRXIII to become the global governor of the sport and look to develop the SL into a league which could rival the NRL.

Australia is in a tricky spot with the ESL, it`s almost a case of careful what you wish for. There is so much more money available in Europe that a successful Super League could quickly see Oz reduced to a feeder League for their competition.
BTW in response to an earlier inquiry, stricter eligibility rules for origin would lead to second rate players providing a second-rate spectacle i.e. more knock-ons, more stop-start, less incredible athleticism etc. etc. Not what people from non-heartland states pay $600/ticket to see and earn the NRL a motza.

Suggest you go back to the swans, doesn’t sound like you like rugby league much.

I don’t think it would have any damage. It would only enhance the product with true NSW v Qld fixtures instead of the farcical version we get today. The standard would be anrguably identical.

If someone is proud enough to represent another country, that’s great, give them the opportunity to do that more often on a bigger stage.

I don’t want to see NSW and Qld made up of mercenaries. I don’t care about All Stars matches. I want the best Australians from NSW and Qld playing.

Not sure about France, but they used to give the home nations and Ireland annual grants.

With the debateable exception of Ireland, grassroots development basically died in all those nations once that source of funding was cut. The sport has been effectively dead on the ground in Scotland for a while now for example.
Not as if the NRL has done anything of relevance to develop Tonga, Fiji or Samoa, so it seems a bit of an illogical argument you are making.
For all intents and purposes RL effectively wouldn't exist in those nations if it wasn't for the NRL.

None of those nations would be able to field competitive international teams and the sport would have no traction on the ground in those nations at all if it wasn't for the NRL. They'd all be fielding teams of local RU players who get pumped by 40+ points every time they play a competent RL team.

You can argue that the NRL could be doing things differently or that they should be doing more, but to say that it's 'not as if the NRL has done anything of relevance to develop Tonga, Fiji or Samoa' is just wrong when RL effectively wouldn't exist in the way that it does in those nations if it wasn't for the NRL.

The Poms would never willingly agree to that and they'd fight against every major change the NRL attempted to make the product profitable. They'd basically only agree if the NRL were acting as angel investors, with no power over the sport or it's administration in the UK. In other words it'd be a giant money sink with little upside for the NRL, and France would be even worse.

It'd also further cement the current status quo between the two bodies where the RFL and ESL seem to approach every interaction with the NRL with a goal of getting something out of them, instead of trying to work together toward mutually beneficial outcomes. Their attitude always seems to be "we have this idea that will benefit us and you're rich so you can afford to lose your ass on it, and it's okay if you lose tens of thousands of dollars on it as it still benefits you in some amorphous sense because you'll be helping to grow the international game" instead of looking to create business plans that result in an equitable return for both parties.
