Yeah, this is not in question everyone wants a good representation for internationals and origin, again i asked what makes stephen Crichton, hamiso fiddow, or jerome Luai not eligible for NSW or QLD, just coz they opt to represent samoa, are they mercs in your eyes?? Do they need to be born of the country to be eligible? Or are they not allowed to have come from a mixed race family like andrew fafita was, where is the lines you've put up to define the difference between being an origin player and a player representing their heritage... thats why i brought up Victor radley
I made it very clear, but I will do so again in an isolated point. I want SOO contested by players who want to represent the Kangaroos.

There are a couple of points.

I would say that the blowouts have increased dramatically during State of Origin. Same will happen right at the end of the season as teams are knocked out. It was very close at the start of the season

So how do remedy this in the short term? Have SOO as a stand-alone? Reduce the amount of games in the regular season and have a much longer finals season?

Long term is obviously investing a lot more in junior development across the board.

Blow outs are part of sport why is NRL any different?

You’d have to look at previous seasons to compare avg winning margin and have a couple of seasons of data to see if adding the 17th club has changed things.

again though the real problem is nrl not having any long term strategy or investment in new talent, in fact we’ve slashed grassroots funding over last few years so where we think greater depth of player talent is going to come from only pistol Pete could say. Oh yes American college football, forgot about that one lol
The best bang for buck investment the NRL could offer would be in the Pacific islands, with performance centres based in each

Sure but there are competitions with a lot less blowouts as well

What are you comparing NRL too though?

Soccer is a low scoring game

The AFL game that just finished was 112-52

other scores this week

120-42
134-53
138-72

Swans won last week 205-35.

That is a sport with draft, No Origin disruption and still gets blow outs

Super rugby has them with less teams

dolphins aren’t having many blowouts and they aren’t even spending the full cap

lack of talent isn’t the issue

Hmm I don’t think it is a lack of talent in the top 17’s but it is in terms of depth.

I personally think that the season is too long and coupled with State of Origin you just get this fizzling out in the back 1/3 of the competition.

I agree about the season length

and origin impacting the nrl

Ideally wed have 20 clubs and a 20 game season (play every team once plus magic weekend) with extended play offs and mid season rep break. But we know that tv wants content over quality so hard to see it ever being reduced From current 24 games.

I don’t care about fumbleball so I’m glad about their troubles but it is also fairly relative.

A 60 or 70 point loss in their game is relative to a 30 point loss in our game based on overall points scored. A 70 point loss is probably closer relatively speaking to that Swans thumping.

Anyway, that still doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be trying to improve our product because teams losing by 60 or 70 points isn’t good for business. More of these games and the ratings will go down, simple as. So why wouldn’t you try and investigate reducing the competition season for example if it increases the overall quietly.

Even if there was no Origin and less rounds. Teams would still give up when they have nothing to play for.

There’s always been blowouts and if anything they’ve reduced from a few years ago

ratings show league fans will watch any rubbish game in large numbers

That first point is true. I was very worried about the game two years ago.

See my reply above.

Use Dragons as an example

Sacked the coach, New coach doesn't start until next year

Hunt wants out, several others would of got the tap on the shoulder. As happens when a new coach is coming in

So you have them slightly off.

The opposition full strength at home, pushing for top 4.

So a blow out results, Not sure how you fix it. Injuries, basketcase clubs are always going to be there
