I don't see what a qrl exec wanting to reduce the amount of Sydney clubs had to do with it? He didnt say he wants the bears to go to Perth?

Because he has a vote. Well the QRL. If the QRL thinks Perth is a better option with some Sydney history as well as the new market.

You don't think they will vote for a Perth Bears over a Perth insert name bid?

QRL, NSWRL and the clubs are all the stakeholders. All of their opinions matter as to whether they vote for it or not.

Perth Red has been very positive since Billy Moores comments, obviously he is still cautious but he only wants what is good for rugby league in WA.
The Bears did themselves no favours initially with their non negotiables at that SOO in Perth but they have come a long way since then.

It is all part of these talks find a middle ground. Cummins wanting a 2nd tier side to only live in Perth was as equally as dumb as the Bears non negotiables.

No, I don't think they care either way. 2 club bosses think stand alone is the better option and you havn't been able to show me 1 that says they want the bears. Just 1 guy that wants to reduce Sydney team numbers.

Of course they care, IF any expansion team fails they lose money. They don't need to go to these areas, They want too but could easily add another Brisbane team to even up the comp.

And run with 18 teams for 5-10 years

As for support of what the Perth bid looks loke. despite what people on here think there has been no offical bids for which clubs to vote on.

Apparently clubs now have a criteria document to make a decision.

Cummins himself said Perth needed $30m to start up, I haven't heard any plans to link up with any pathways themselves.

So there are 2 areas that on paper Perth Bears tick as opposed to a Perth whatever

There's nothing to suggest the clubs would vote for Perth bears but not Perth stand alone.

You didn't answer my question. Who have Perth Stand alone been talking to for link up with Pathways?

Until there is an answer for that then Standalone has no chance.

Clubs know better than anyone how much depth is needed that is before you go into how to attract and develop the best 17 year olds

Im not disputing pathways is seen as an issue. I was just refuting your suggestion that the clubs want the bears and won't vote for a stand alone club. 2 have said they think stand alone is a better option.

Don't muddy what we were talking about.

How's that even an argument? I think they are better alone coz, we WA folk don't want bears, but don't have any structure or pathway system in place to provide the 17 other clubs with junior prospects...

Sooooo we are these nrl perth players coming from?
I'll tell you... from the other 17 clubs, they will not want that period, but if you go with the bears, they have their own pathway system that gets loaned out to currently the storm, and before that the Roosters, they aren't pinching from the other clubs, this is why they want the bears

Bukowski.... what is Perth giving these 17 clubs that other bids aren't

Ask Gus Gould. He thinks it should be stand alone. Show me a club that has said they would only support Perth if they partnered with the bears?
Any new club will be drawing from the same pool as all the other clubs with our without the bears.
The clubs don't care either way. But I concede that it's happening, so I wish them well.

Sydney teams with the NSWRL added Canberra and Illawarra in 1982 and then added Brisbane, Newcastle and Gold Goast Giants in 1988 then became the ARL then went on to become the NRL with others teams being added, merged and being discarded over the years.
The Hostplus QLD Cup is the alternate to the Knock On Effect NSW Cup but in all honestly their top teams just don’t measure up to the standard of the NSW Cup.
I have spoken to players who have played in both and this is their opinion.
They say the NSW Cup is more professional and that the QLD Cup is like a Country Competition in comparison.
I know plenty of players in the Hostplus Competition having coached them and against them at club and representative level Cooper Page-Wilson (Wynnum-Manly Seagulls), Jaron Purcell (Redcliffe Dolphins), Bennett Leslie (Brisbane Tigers), Nicholas O’Meley (Burleigh Bears), Ryan Jones (Burleigh Bears), Corey Fenning (Clydesdales), Kyle Schneider (Northern Pride), Morgan McWhirter (Townsville Blackhawks), Jacob McCudden (Tweed Seagulls), Tom Steadman (Tweed Seagulls), Harry Croker (Tweed Seagulls), Toby Marks (Tweed Seagulls) and Jakob Kernick (Tweed Seagulls).
I personally look forward to the State Championship match every year on NRL Grand Final day.
There have been 8 matches, NSW Cup have won 6 to QLD Cup 2, QLD Cup won the first two which were close games, NSW Cup teams with the exception of 2019’s Newtown Jets v Burleigh Bears 20-16 result have won by an average of twenty points.
It absolutely pisses me off that your right (for parochial reasons), but you must be due to the results. The State Championship is usually my favourite part of Grand Final day being a fan of the Qld Cup but it does seem like the Qld comp isn’t keeping up anymore. 15 years ago, I’m sure it was considered inverse though…

What’s your take on the reason the disparity is happening- is it really just because old the NRL alignment in NSW? A bloke that works for me who’s in the Wynnum system thinks it’s only gonna get worse now that the QRL dismantled the U20’s for the BMD comp.

If the game is serious about looking after Country/Regional Footy, it needs to be paramount to keep the second division regional.

If the North Sydney Bears were reintroduced then their initial NRL squad wouldn't be made up of 30 players from the North Sydney district.

The disparity is caused by the NRL increasing the amount of full time players in each NRL squad around a decade ago. The best NSW Cup clubs are fielding a run on team of professional NRL contracted players who are paid to train four or five days a week with their NRL club. Queensland Cup squads are filled with semi-professional players who train twice a week.

The Bears hold on to win a very close encounter today with the South Sydney Rabbitohs 22-20 to secure the Mario Fenech Cup with two wins over the Rabbitohs in 2024. The Rabbitohs scored two tries in the last five minutes and missed a conversion with under a minute remaining.
The Bears were missing regular fullback Jake Toby and only had one contracted Melbourne Storm player second rower Tepai Moeroa playing today.
The Bears remain three points clear at the top on the NSW Cup competition ladder having now strung together eight consecutive wins but now have a very tough game against the 2nd placed Canberra Raiders next weekend in Canberra.

The Bears currently lead the NSW Cup competition, they were Minor Premiers and Runners Up in 2023, the Bears probably have three to four contracted Storm players play with them each weekend if they are lucky, the Bears contracted players all have jobs.

I’ll tell you now, NSO will be sold out for that “ONE” game.

A home regular season game in Sydney should be on the condition that Perth Bears never have to be host for Magic or Vegas.

Also I know the history is all NSO but it’s 10k capacity, wouldn’t Allianz be worth a try if the demand is going to be high? 7km between NSO & Allianz is f**k all. Should a new club be sacrificing 15-25k paying customers for the nostalgia trip?
