You’ve been privy to all the bids that haven’t yet been put forward then? LolOut of the options available for the 18th licence, the only one that has a business case that stacks up is Easts Tigers.

"you need to continue the popularity of the game, and if we can make the game national we’ll do so." This also seems to hint at Perth“There’s a possibility of Perth or even New Zealand, there’s a lot of possibilities.
Good to hear Perth out first and the fact he said "even" NZ suggests that isnt high on the list
There was one from New Zealand and a couple from Perth. None of them have the riches and safety net of a large Leagues Club to prop them up in a large city that loves rugby league and has local businesses lining up to support the game, which is what the ARLC wants from expansion clubs. PVL did mention the need for more talent to support an 18th team. Easts Tigers field teams from U7s through to Queensland Cup, so they've already got a base to develop the talent needed for expansion. You’ve been privy to all the bids that haven’t yet been put forward then? Once again you have no idea what bid a perth consortium could put together. For example sage has more assets than The tigers league club, instead of competing for fans against three other se qlnd clubs a perth club will have 20-30k RL fans to itself From day one, Perth is home to some of the countries richest companies, perth has a very supportive govt who would love to get behind a club here. Yes tigers have pokies and jnrs but as far as business case you are just speculating at this point as there has been no call for bids therefore no one knows who might step forward. Who thought five years ago that the western force would become the wealthiest sports club in the country! There was one from New Zealand and a couple from Perth. Well if you are judging an NRL clubs wealth by the wealth of its owner then Force are now backed by the richest guy in the country (worth $20billion) , so yes that would make them the richest club!Wealthiest club in Australia, stop sipping on the cool aid
Of course you do“It has to stack up with a business case, what the Dolphins did is it stacked up,” he explained.
“We don’t have to pay tens of millions having that 17th team, in actual fact we generated substantial new revenue from broadcast to have that 17th team.
HAHA I call BS!!
I thought you said the West Coast Eagles were the biggest and most profitable club in Australia?Once again you have no idea what bid a perth consortium could put together. Big difference between biggest and most profitable sports club generated wealth and fanbase, and then owners wealth. If you want to count a clubs wealth and sustainability based on the wealth of its owner, rather than the wealth of its FC operations, then Force are the wealthiest and Broncos are second based on their owners wealth.I thought you said the West Coast Eagles were the biggest and most profitable club in Australia?
Now it's the Western Force who play in front of crowds under 10k and draw abysmal ratings on Stan Sport?
How many businesses in WA are going to saddle up with a Perth-based NRL team in what is a rusted-on fumbleball state?
The prestige of being associated with the West Coast Eagles in a fumbleball state will not be replicated with the West Coast Pirates, just like it wasn't for the Western Reds, Western Force and Perth Glory.
The West Coast Pirates might generate a passionate fanbase of 12k to 15k who attend their matches regularly and 30k to 50k who watch them on TV across WA, but that's not enough to command high level investment from businessmen when the West Coast Eagles and Fremantle Dockers probably have eight times as many supporters.
Brisbane 3 could draw up to 150k to 180k regular TV viewers in Brisbane and 20k to 25k regular attendees to their matches at Lang Park. The biggest sporting clubs in Brisbane will be Broncos, Dolphins and Brisbane 3. The fact they'll be playing against one another will provide more media coverage for their corporate partners.
Reality is reality, and the reality is Fox and Ch9 are not paying one cent more cash for a 17 team comp than they paid for a 16 team comp. Those are the facts.Of course you do
Your obsessive hate for him clouds any rational thinking .
I cannot disagree with anything you've said here. Perth should be the 18th team and needs to be if we're fair dinkum about having a national competition. I think it's fair to say the Western Reds should have been kept around in 1998. The game would be much stronger if the Western Reds were about to about enter their 27th season.Big difference between biggest and most profitable sports club generated wealth and fanbase, and then owners wealth. If you want to count a clubs wealth and sustainability based on the wealth of its owner, rather than the wealth of its FC operations, then Force are the wealthiest and Broncos are second based on their owners wealth.
You dont know how profitable the Firehawks would be and are basing their wealth on their owners, ie the Tigers LC. If thats your measure then you have to measure other clubs the same way. In a WA bids case Sage is the wealthiest of the 3 potential bidders and has more assets than the Tigers LC. Looking at purely football operations revenue and fanbase the WC Eagles are the biggest club in the country. Not bad for a city of 2.2million people!
Brisbane3 might, but theres no guarantees especially as you are continuing to dilute the active RL fanbase the more clubs you add into SE Qlnd. The stupid decison to have a regionalised Brisbane2 means that a Brisbane3 is probably inevitable but it shouldnt be before markets with zero clubs in them imo.
WC Pirates give West Coast businesses an opportunity to market into NSW and Qlnd that the two AFL options struggle to match. Thats where the appeal will be, I've also heard on the grapevine there's a mining company that has operations in Qlnd, WA and PNG that is very keen to be part of a future WA club. Glory, Wildcats, Scorchers, Force all have full sponsorship portfolios so maybe not as AFL rusted on as you'd like to believe? For example Force have just signed a multi million $ 4 year main sponsorship deal despite the shtness of Rugby Union in this country.
you mean a 3rd right?A 2nd Brisbane team would be the biggest slap in the face to NRL expansionists.
Perth should get it.
They will need an extra $16m per annum.we have a thread for expansion via second tier
Can we keep this one on topic to if we think expansion will happen before 2028 please!
In that regard the NRL looks like it will be spending any spare cash keeping players and clubs happy so the directors get to keep their seats. Its hard to see anything spare to fund an 18th club UNLESS TV contracts change between now and 2028.
In regards to a reserve grade comp. I do see it as negative in regards to the effect on NSW cup and Qcup but let's look at the positives: clubs like Melbourne and Warriors will have a direct pathway to first grade. Also the game day experience is improved, people can say that nobody watched those but that's not entirely true, you can actually make a day of it .
Expansion hopefuls will have a ready made pathway and development system- I'm looking at you Perth and Adelaide.
It is more streamlined and puts everyone on a more even footing.
The players in the qcup ect benefit to a degree also as they won't get the boot because a NRL player needs some game time.
It could work out for the best.
