Not exactly North-South nowadays though. More like North-East to South-West. Almost like they made a compromise.

I must say I like Leichhardt. One of the great suburban grounds.

Is that why the stand behind the goal is in one corner?

That must have been one of the grandstands before

20k at South Sydney versus Cumberland at the old Showground!

Before they demolished it to become the fox studios precinct in the 90's I went there to see a speedway event, one of the last events they held there. My old man told me stories of when he went there to watch speedway as a kid, sitting near the fence and him and his mates would hold up blankets as the cars sprayed dirt n mud as they howled past... he'd also say that the stands shook with all the cars rumbling around... and so it did the night I went.

Really glad I got to experience the old Showground before it was demolished, even if it wasn't footy or cricket, was still special.

Can only imagine what it was like to be among 20,000 for that game in the first season of Rugby League.
