Honourable mentions to Villasanti, John Carlaw, Jason Death, Robbie Mears, Lance Hohaia, Awen Guttenbeil, Wairangi Koopu, Dennis Betts, Andy Platt and Quentin Pongia, although the last three never really achieved as well as they did elsewhere with the Warriors.

Not the worst given the club's only been around since 1995.

my version (at their respective peaks for Penrith)

Wesser
MacKay
Girdler
Fittler (didn't play much 5/8 there, was best at centre imo)
Rooney
Izzard/Carter
Alexander (c)
Clarke
Gower ( just ahead of Priddis - love to have Roycie)
Dunn
Geyer
Cartwright
van der Voort

Res
Puletua
Izzard/Carter
Waterhouse
Clinton/Lang

Obviously I have a bias towards the 90-91 side, which without the Ben Alexander tragedy and events following that I believe would have rivalled (possibly been better than) the great Brisbane sides of 92-93

Hooker was tough, Simmons was Penrith, Priddis is a great and under-rated player, but Gower was also terrific at hooker, and can't push Brandy out at half...

Peter kelly and Chris Mortimer deserve honourable mention for the role they (with Paul Dunn) played in showing the talented Penrith juniors how to win

sorry to quible Iafeta - the side looks good ( think Meli should be in instead of Vagana, and Webb may have done enough to unseat Ridge who played hois best footie at Manly). Alexander at 6 (I have him at 7 in my Penrith team) illustrates perhaps the Warriors biggest problem.

BUT, what I was going to ask was, what did Betts ever do that was honourable during his time in Auckland???

Meh, you're probably right on Betts - just trying to make the Warriors sound good.

Its a tough gig!

I am Basing my Tigers team from 1988 onwards. I can't remember anything before that. But I was four years old in 1988 so forgive me.

1. Gary Jack
2. James Grant
3. Tim Brasher
4. Ellery Hanley
5. Brett Hodgson (Out of position but since 88 we have lacked wingers and Hodgo deserves a spot)
6. Mick Neil
7. Scott Prince (Yes I like Gary Freeman too but Prince is more classy that Whiz ever was)
13. Wayne Pearce
12. Ben Galea
11. Paul Sironen
10. Steve Roach
9. Ben Elias
8. Mark Stimson (he did hold our forwards together often overshadowed by Siro)

14. Darren Senter
15. Jason Lowrie
16. Steve Edmed
17. Gary Freeman

Farah wuld get onto the bench in a year or two. So would Benji. Hell Fulton, Whaturia and Skandalis are close to it too.

The fullback is the issue. Three of the top 5 fullbacks I have seen in my time. Only Belcher and Lockyer are as good as Jack, Brasher and Hodgson.

COACH: Michael HAGAN
WATER BOY: Greg SMITH

There is no way Perry would make anything with his joke of a career the past 3 years, I'd rather have the loyal clubman Boozy in there even though his form has been restricted due to injury which you could argue the same for Perry.

But atleast he isnt the type of dumbf**k that comes back and second game after injury gets a six week suspension after about 5 cheap penalties.

Plus he did play for NSW dont forget.

And Simmo's been brillant for years now, a must to be in there.

I rate Hodgson over Minichello.

Jack, Brasher, Belcher, Lockyer then Hodgson. It is in that order. Hodgson is just below the elite 4 in my opinion. There is a gap between the top four and the rest. In fact there is a gap from the top two until Belcher then another gap between Belcher and Lockyer.

You forget Parra won 4 titles in that time, yet you stack it full of players who couldn't win one?

Your backs are pretty much spot on -Cronin played in 3, and Ella 4.

Steve Edge has to be hooker.

O'Reilly, Hilditch, Geoff Bugden have done more for the club upfront that your prop choices.

No lock has EVER deserved to push Ray Price in the second row.

Hindy deserves to be there. His second row partner can only be either Mark Laurie, Peter Wynn or workaholic Steve Sharp. I'd go for Laurie myself.

Wally would never make a Bronco starting 13 either. Matterson did FAR more for that club that Wally did.

I also dispute Tallis in Saints backrow. There have been far better.

But it's only an opinion thing I guess. But it helps to have been watching leage for that long.

Having seen an Eels side with Price in the front row, though I'd better set it straight.

Parramatta Eels 1980-2005

1 Paul Taylor (over Mahon, Hodgeson and Schifcofske) - workaholic.
2 Eric Grothe snr (Unstoppable - 8 tests)
3 Michael Cronin (Greatest pointscorer of his time - 22 tests, rothman's medal)
4 Steve Ella (2nd part of the best club centres combo ever - once scored 4 tries for ROTW v Poms)
5 Scott Mahon - long serving clubman in a dark era - great ball runner and top defender
6 Brett Kenny - Most capped Eel, Golden Boots winner, 17 tests
7 Peter Sterling - Rothamans medalist, Clive Churchil medallist, 18 tests
8 Bob O'Reilly - MOM in 81 GF, World Cup rep.
9 Steve Edge - Thrice premiership winning captain
10 Ron Hilditch - International - the original hitman
11 Nathan Hindmarsh - Current international, 4 times Dally M Second rower of the year
12 Peter Wynn - international
13 Ray Price (c) - Rothman's Medallist, 22 tests, backbone of the club for a decade

BENCH
14) John Simon - best halfback in last decade, NSW rep, spearhead of early Brian Smith era
15) Clinton Schifcofske - clubs best defensive fullback in that era, great pressure kicker, origin rep
16) Mark Laurie - 200+ games for the club, never shirked his duty.
17) Geoff Bugden - a bookend, solid as a rock, great clubman.

BTW OVP, Beetson is not eligible in your side. You may as well have picked Messenger!

That looks a GREAT side...i'll re-edit again..that actually sticks more to what the fans put together then what i originally had! I just can't leave out Jimmy Dymock though, he was a quality player who gave his best for the club week after week, one of my personal favourite 'traditional' locks before they began changing from ball-players to extra running forwards...

Simon was better than Taylor?
